There are two kid shows I remember watching as a little kid in the early 90s and I'm not sure what they were so I'm guessing they were pretty obscure. They were both live action. It's been killing me to know the names of them.
The first one looked like it had somewhat of a low budget and it had adults dressed up like animals only they wore clothes and they drove around in a jeep. The look of it was pretty dark but also colorful most likely being filmed in a studio. I'm pretty sure it was suppose to take place in a jungle or something like that. I think they were like different animals but there was like a cat/lion type one. Those are really the only specifics I can remember about it. I just remember watching it around 92-93 when I was 4 or 5 years old.
The other one was a basic kids show that also looked like it had a low budget. I'm not sure but I'm guessing this one is even more obscure than the last. It was about some kids who were friends or something and they hung out with these adults. One of the adults was a guy with a big beard but it wasn't long. It wsan't a goatee but a full beard sort of lumberjack-like. I think it was more of an educational show where they tell you how to do stuff rather than one with a plot. It looked like it took place in a small town and I think they taught the kids how to build stuff but I'm not sure.
The biggest thing I remember about this show is the theme song. It was just a basic sing along theme song that had hand gestures with it where you touch your elbows and then your nose or something like that. I believe it went something like "wink a me a be, wink a me a doo, i want to wink a me with you". That probably isn't even close to the actual words but that is how I think it went.
Both shows seemed pretty low budget and somewhat in the same tone as the Thomas The Tank Engine show "Shining Time Station" during the show's late 80s and early 90s years.
So do either of those shows sound familiar to anyone? I'm pretty sure the first one was a somewhat big morning weekday show for preschoolers to 7 year olds but the second one was pretty low budget and may have even been local but I'm not sure.

Ok, I'll throw my obscure memories out there. As a kid there was a mix live-action/puppet show with kids and adults, sometime in the late 80's/early 90's. I think they lived in a giant tree house. I vaguely remember a squirrel puppet? Sorry I can't be more specific. It used to come on Saturday Mornings at 7:30AM, right before the regular Saturday morning cartoons. It was not on PBS though. I think it was on the old WWOR Channel 9 in NYC.

I used to watch this on the Disney Channel, so I'm not sure what other channels it aired on (if any).

Ok, I looked up Under the Umbrella Tree and I really don't think thats it. The show I'm thinking of was actually kinda cheaper looking. There were definitely children involved too, not just the one adult human. They lived in some kind of treehouse in a forest. I really don't know what else to add.
The only episode I remember was I think a holiday episode where one of the children (I think she was Indian) didn't know who Santa Claus was, and the squirrel puppet was in total shock over it. The human in the tree at the time had to explain how different cultures have different holidays and stuff.

I named my very first pet after this show, I loved it so much.
This one was fun, too.
Anyone remember Hickory Hideout?
LOVED this one...

BTW now that I think of it I'm pretty sure both aired on PBS. Well, after both got revealed... you're half right. Zoobilee Zoo did air on PBS in the 80's and early 90's. Sharon, Lois, and Bram's Elephant Show aired on the CBC and Nickelodeon during the 80's and 90's.

AHHHHHHH!
Thank you!
I've been trying to find out the name of Ocean Girl for YEARS now. My memory of it was mostly that there was some undersea research thing. Unless there is another show that also had a similar theme this HAS to be it. I could have sworn it was a Nickelodeon show, but the wiki says Disney. I don't remember the actual Ocean girl part of it though, but it fits my timeframe (around the same time as The Secret World of Alex Mack)
I was starting to think it might have been a dream and not an actual show.

S'more little-known kids' shows:
Watching the intro for David the Gnome, I had no idea it was made by Miramax Films. Amazing that this is the same company that would later give us Pulp Fiction and the Kill Bill movies, among others.
