Caron Butler is finally playing the way people hoped he would last year so thats a bright spot for the Mavs and it was a fairly close game.

Tonight's results from the WCBA (World Championship Basketball Association):
The Giant defeated Mongo. In this high-octane affair, Mongo had an early edge, but The Giant quickly came back, and seemed to be in control from there on out. Mongo attempted a late come back, and nearly succeeded, but like many before him, he fell victim to the choke slam (Orlando over New York 112-103).
Randy Savage went over Lex Luger. Luger is still having problems with his right knee (no Dirk), and it Savage took advantage of that early on. But just when it seemed that he had it in control, Luger, showing true grit and toughness, mounted a comeback. Unfortunately, it came too late, and Savage hit the elbow drop to defeat Luger (San Antonio over Dallas 99-93).
Ultimo Dragon beat Raven's Flock. Dragon prevailed despite reports his left knee is a lot worse than originally thought (Roy out indefinitely). They took control early, fought off a few comeback attempts, and pulled away late, making Kidman tap out to the Dragon Sleeper (Portland over Utah 100-89).

I don't believe in moral victories. You either win the game or you lose the game, and we lost.
I liked the effort though, but it won't make a difference come the end of the season when it's time to think about division tie breakers. A loss is a loss.
I also must add that I'm beyond sick and tired of JJ Barea. He over dribbles and then tries to make Jason Kidd passes when he is not even in the same universe as Kidd as a point guard. I really hope to see his minutes decrease drastically when Roddy B comes back. But of course it will probably be DeShawn Stevenson that suffers instead.

Barea is terrible, and certainly in the conversation for "worst player in the league". 14% from 3? 38% overall? With indifferent to bad defense? Undersized and unathletic? If he brings something to the table, I'm missing it.

Jason Terry can play PG but he's not good at it, and of course Beaubois has been out all season with the foot injury. When your starting PG is 37 years old, obviously he can't play 40 minutes a night and still be good to go in the playoffs. Thus Barea gets a lot of run. He's fast and will try to drive to the basket a lot, but usually he just over dribbles, runs around, makes a bad pass and we're going the other way. He sprinkles in some good plays here and there, but not enough to deserve the playing time he gets.

That was a mind-blowingly ugly final play. It never works when they let Pierce run the whole thing.

Here are tonight's results from the WCBA (2011 edition):
Ric Flair defeated Sting. Sting has been battling leg problems. He's been having problems with his left ankle (no Rondo) and strained his calf in his last match against the Nasty Boys (no Garnett). Regardless, he was in it until the bitter end. However, the healthy Flair was able to get Sting in the Figure Four, where he passed out from the pain to his legs (New Orleans over Boston 83-81).
Eddie Guerrero went over Glacier. Eddie always seemed to have an answer in this match-up. And even when Glacier seemed to even things out, Eddie quickly regained control, and never gave Glacier the edge. Eddie was able to connect with the Frog Splash for the victory (Chicago over New Jersey 90-81).
Greg Valentine squashed Juventud Guerrera. Juventud is horrible away from his home turf (0-16 on the road), and this game was no exception. Greg's veteran instincts kicked in, and he grounded the high-flying Juventud, locking on the Figure Four to make Guerrera tap out (Indiana over Washington 95-86).
High Voltage beat Alex Wright. Definitely the match of the day. No side had an advantage until midway through the match, when High Voltage took advantage, and never really let go. But Wright nearly completed the comeback late. But the two-on-one advantage proved being the difference, as Wright was hit with the Circuit Breaker, giving High Voltage the win (Golden State over Charlotte 96-95).
La Parka defeated Jerry Flynn. This was a high-octane match throughout. Flynn got off to a hot start, but La Parka came out of nowhere to regain control, and he never let go, pulling away late, and hitting the La Parkinator for the victory (Houston over Toronto 114-105).
Chris Jericho went over Booker T. Jericho was always one step above Booker throughout the match, always keeping him in it, but never giving him the advantage. Controversy arose when Jericho refused to break holds until the ref stepped in, with Booker calling it a "classless act". Regardless, Jericho used it to his advantage in making Booker tap out to the Liontamer (Oklahoma City over Atlanta 103-94).
Rey Mysterio squashed The Nasty Boys. Mysterio used his speed to his advantage for sure, running circles around the tired, worn down Nasty Boys. There was never a moment when it seemed plausible that The Nasty Boys would win. Rey pinned Knobbs following a Tornado DDT (Phoenix over Detroit 92-75).
Goldberg beat Bobby Eaton. For a good portion of the match, Goldberg had a slight edge over Eaton, but Eaton made it interesting late in the contest. However, Goldberg showed why he is a perennial contender, spearing Eaton out of nowhere and hitting the Jackhammer for the win (LA Lakers over Philadelphia 102-98).

How long will Dirk be out? I might be going to the Spurs/Mavs game on the 14th but I only want to go if Dirk is playing.

Refs jobbed the Warriors out to the Heat tonight. It's getting ridiculous to be a Warriors fan. They don't even try to call the game fair. 25 fouls to their 10, and we've got guys cutting to the basket and getting hacked to pieces.

My only beed with him is that he tends to play a little too out of control in crucial moments of the game. If Carlisle could get him to slow down, take his time, and take better shots or create better situations for the team he'd be fine. Until then he tends to get too dangerous with his passes, shots, and dribbling. It's one of the main reasons why I miss Steve Nash and Devin Harris.

Heat give up two straight quarters of 36 points to the Warriors. Come back in the second half and don't allow them to get 36 combined.

Is this week over yet?
I guess I can take solace in the fact that we lost 3 straight without our best player available for any of those games. And Barea's stat line from tonight makes me smile. Other than that.... eh.
