Dirk - Injured Marion - Injured
Now, add Caron Butler to the list and throw in a 3rd straight loss.
If we lose to Cleveland tomorrow night, no matter who's playing, I say we just forfeit any playoff spot we would get, because I wouldn't even feel comfortable accepting it at that point.
This is damn pathetic, we can't beat ANYBODY without Dirk. Toronto, minus Bargnani and Calderon, is pretty damn low and we couldn't handle them. Then tonight it was the Bucks without Brandon Jennings. The only positive this brings is that it shows Dirk damn well better win the MVP, because without him, we are just a terrible terrible team.

I think you're overreacting. Dallas will be fine and it's best that these injuries are happening early rather than later. Just think of how you'd feel if these injuries happened in the playoffs.

It would feel a lot like the 2003 Western Conference Finals when Dirk got injured. It was pretty much a helpless feeling because you knew the Spurs were just going to kick our ass at that point.

Dallas will get a nice playoff seed, no doubt. But they are alarmingly mediocre without Dirk. It's a bunch of also rans and kinda old guys. Matrix isn't anything approaching his previous self, Caron is alright at best, Kidd (though one of my favorite players to watch ever) is pretty much a "DH" at this point. Stevenson, JT, Barea, Haywood - average at best, bad at worst.
Currently, they are still an elite team. But man, do they need Dirk. He's more valuable than most people probably imagined. But still not the MVP, although he has a much stronger case than D Rose (Bucher, you idiot).

Rick Carlisle says that Caron Butler's knee injury is "potentially serious".
For tomorrow night, Dirk, Butler, and of course Roddy B are all out, and no word on Marion yet.
And naturally Jason Terry has to pick now to go into one of his VINTAGE shooting slumps. He was like 3-15 against the Spurs and 3-16 tonight. The one guy left you think you can count on to score, can't score.
By the way, Brian Cardinal played 35 minutes tonight. That's horrifying!

Tonight's results from the WCBA (World Championship Basketball Association):
Eddie Guerrero defeated Bret Hart. Hart is dealing with a slew of injuries (no Mo, Gibson, Varejao), but had the upper hand for the first part of the match. Then it seemed Bret could do no right, completely falling apart at the seems. Eddie took advantage, and pinned Bret after hitting the Frog Splash (Chicago over Cleveland 100-91).
Ric Flair went over Juventud Guerrera. There was no clear cut favorite until fairly late, when Flair's veteran instincts led him to victory, making Guerrera tap out to the Figure Four (New Orleans over Washington 92-81).
The NWO beat High Voltage. In this high-octane match, it appeared High Voltage threw everything they had at the Heat. And it worked for the first half of the match, but the NWO came storming back. All three key members (Wade, LeBron, Bosh) got a good amount of offense in, but Hogan (LeBron) finished off High Voltage with his Leg Drop (Miami over Golden State 114-107).
Silver King defeated Glacier. After a quick start by Silver King, the match was even for a good while. But after a quick slew of offense midway through the match, King maintained control for the rest of the match, hitting Glacier with a Moonsault to end the match (Minnesota over New Jersey 103-88).
Randy Savage squashed Chris Jericho. This was an ugly match for Jerichoholics. Savage got off to a hot start, and the rest is history. The Macho Man could do no wrong, and similarly, Jericho could do no right. Savage mercifully ended the match with his Elbow Drop (San Antonio over Oklahoma City 101-74).
The Steiner Bros. went over Disorderly Conduct. As predicted, Scott actually showed up (Carmelo returned), and it seemed to help, though Scott did have a little ring rust. The Steiners gained control halfway through the match, and were one step ahead of Disorderly Conduct from there on out, hitting the Steinerizer for the victory (Denver over Sacramento 104-86).
David Arquette beat Lex Luger. Luger has seemingly eight hundred billion leg problems right now (no Dirk, Marion), and he suffered another knee injury tonight, and it didn't look good (Butler injured). Arquette took advantage, hitting the spear for the victory (Milwaukee over Dallas 99-87).
Raven's Flock defeated DDP. This was the match of the night. The Flock took control partway through, but DDP came back to make it an exciting match-up. There seemed to be no clear-cut favorite late, but the numbers game of the Flock seemed to be the difference, as Raven hit the DDT out of nowhere for the win (Utah over Memphis 98-92).

I thought Dallas did fairly well against San Antonio briefly even without Dirk the other day. I only got to see the first half though. San Antonio had the upper hand but it didn't ever appear one-sided.

Its exciting that the Spurs defense was so strong against Oklahoma last night. Our offense has improved greatly this season but the defense has been slacking a little. If we can keep playing the way we've been offensively AND get to where we used to defense wise.....holy shit.

The Mavs are reportedly flying in rookie Dominique Jones from the D-league to be in Cleveland for tonight's game.
Also, a new report says that Caron Butler's season could be over. While that wouldn't be as devastating as Dirk, that's still 15 points a game and a really solid defender gone. Shawn Marion will have to step back into the starting lineup and put up similar numbers.

Shawn Marion will have to step back into the starting lineup and put up similar numbers. sports.espn.go.com/dallas/nba/news/story?id=5981356&campaign=rss&source=twitter&ex_cid=Twitter_espn_5981356Report says 2 months if it's a partial torn patellar tendon, rest of the season if it's a full tear. Marion CAN step into the starting 5 and put up similar numbers. The issue with that would be that the bench would be even shorter than it is already without Roddy Beaubois. I like what Dominique Jones does offensively (his ability to drive to the bucket, take contact, and finish plays is wonderful) but I've seen nothing of his defense to suggest he would be capable of playing Butler or Marion style defense. Look for rumors of some kind of deal to get Andre Iguodala out of Philadelphia (who has his own injury woes) or the fabled "Let's rent Carmelo from Denver" that I've tried to ignore since forever to start surfacing, especially if Butler is out for the year.

In non-Maverick, non-LeBron related news (seriously, for all the complaining I do about the media's focus being pretty fixated on few subjects, I can be the same way), Amar'e Stoudemire had a technical rescinded, lowering his season total to 9. sports.espn.go.com/new-york/nba/news/story?id=5981325Dwight Howard leads the league in techs with 11. Accrue 16, get an automatic 1 game suspension. For every two you get after hitting 16, you get an automatic 1 game suspension. It's ridiculous that we're about 30 games into the season and people are approaching those limits.

Knicks beat the Pacers. Now we have the Spurs on Tuesday and then a very difficult western road trip.

Heat give up two straight quarters of 36 points to the Warriors. Come back in the second half and don't allow them to get 36 combined. Don't poke the bear kids. It's not bear poking. It's corrupt officiating. Period. The refs took over the game in the second half and wouldn't allow the pace to pick up. There were 5 fouls called total (iirc) in the first half. The second half they called 27 fouls on the Warriors. And I'd say 20 percent of them were just bulls*** cop out fouls. I'm not an irrational fan. I'm not even really a homer, but I don't like seeing refs take over games at all. It happens far too often in the NBA, and honestly? We proved we could hang with the Heat if we played our best, which we did in the first half. The Heat certainly woke up, but taking 31 more free throws than the warriors and winning by 7? Pft. Give me a f***ing break.

Funny how shady officiating seems to always surround the Heat.

Funny how shady officiating seems to always surround the Heat. *cough*2006FINALS*cough* It seems to circle the teams that need it the least. The Lakers, the Celtics, the Heat. These are the teams that have proven they can win. If anything, the officiating should be harder on them.
