Ok. Tell me I'm not only the one who immediately started doing cartwheels after Raiden was freed from the naked torture device. I kinda wondered why Raiden would keep his hands in front of his junk throughout the level, wouldn't it have been easier for him to evade or neutralize the guards if he had his hands free? I mean, if I were escaping from a torture chamber and had to get past a bunch of guys with guns, my first instinct would probably be something like "survive no matter what it takes" instead of "OH GOD THOSE GUYS ARE GONNA SEE ME NAKED! "

Whats next for Metal Gear Solid after Rising? OK so Rising fills in the back-story for Raiden between Metal Gear Solid 2 and 4 but what are they going to after that?
I hope the franchise goes in one of 2 directions
1- Metal Gear 1 and 2 remake/re-imagining (THE NES games not Metal Gear Solid just Metal Gear). Seeing Snake as a rookie and the missions that turned him into a legend would be cool.
or
2- Metal Gear Solid reboot. Just start the whole dam thing from scratch. I never realized this but Metal Gear Solid's story is very very convoluted and when you sit down and read the whole thing at once the story just seems silly. Don't get me wrong I love the series story; but Try reading the story section in MGS4's strategy guide you will see that while getting it piece by piece in game format you don't notice how unnatural the story is BUT sit down and getting it all at once you get a sense that there wasn't a grand plan and a lot of what they were going for was changed from game to game.
I think if Kojima just rebooted the series and actually mapped out a multi-game story it would be really cool. MGS1 seemed to be setting up a possible story for a second game but then MGS2 kind of followed up on it but changed some things, then MGS3 filled in a lot of back story that odds are wasn't planned to be there so they had to retcon a lot of things. MGS4 didn't seem to follow any path set by any of the previous games. It all just seems like the story has gotten out of control.
Bring it back to basics.

You're pretty good... *Hand gesture & death.* Also, I know why after completing the game, but was anyone else dissapointed they didn't use Cam Clarke (Liquid's voice actor) instead of Ocelot's? I enjoyed his voice so much. "BROTHER!" Also, spoilers in the video, but that is SUCH a heart wrenching scene.

Funny story: My bro was given a list of ps1 games to get and he picked metal gear solid thinking that it would be some sort of racing game. Little did he know he picked probably the greatest ps1 games of all time

A little bit. For one thing, it didn't fit with Metal Gear Solid 2. For another thing, the Japanese version used Liquid's voice actor! (Okay, it's because the Japanese voice for Ocelot died before they started the game, but still.)

The end of -MGS4:Guns of the patriots- is nothing less then a masterwork YEEEEES! The whole series is so wonderfully epic! The first action/adventure games that when beating them made me feel the same way that finishing a Final Fantasy game would make me feel.

The end of -MGS4:Guns of the patriots- is nothing less then a masterwork It is. I don't remember the ending of any video game before making me misty-eyed. Funny thing too, because I started off hating the MGS 4 game when I first got it.

I love that video. Whenever anyone in my group of friends mentions something about Metal Gear, the reply is usually "Metal Gear!?" to it & then to everything else he says.

No game in the history of gaming has ever tied up a series so immaculately as MGS4.
In fact, when researching on the Metal Gear Wiki (I love reading about the series and all of its rich plot and history), no series in the history of gaming is as internally consistent as MGS.
Is it perfect? Well, no. Some birth dates are inconsistent, as are some plot details as it relates to the connection between the Playstation and NES entries. But no series has done as good a job tying it all together, having every detail check out, and having every story thread and plot element appear to be planned out to the very last scene (even though Kojima has gone on record saying that he didn't even plan on making MGS4 until Snake Eater made fans crave a conclusion to the story after the Philosophers were introduced).
Just amazing. I can go back to each entry of the series, even the NES games, and find something I can appreciate even more given all the facts I learned in later games. It's all just so rich.

The thing I wonder is if MGS Rising will be the last installment of the series. There have been PSP titles like Portable Ops and Peace Walker, but Rising seems like it would tie up the part of how Raiden became what he had become. I still find it funny how many fans hated Raiden in MGS2 yet suddenly liked how badass he was in MGS4. Personally, I never had a problem with the character.
I would like to see a remake of the first two MG games, though MG2 seems to have a lot of interaction with Snake and some of the other characters and the codec was more prevalent in that one than in MG1. Also the codec was used for was when someone contacted YOU.

Raiden in MGS2 was okay (even if the game wasn't), but his OMG TOTAL BADASS CYBORG NINJAZZZZ WITH SWORDZ AND S*** MGS4 incarnation was seriously the dumbest f***ing thing I have ever seen in any game. It's like Kojima went "So you assholes don't like my character because he 'looks like a girl', huh? You want him to be a 'badass'? Well, here's your f***ing 'badass' Raiden! Look, he even spins on his head and everything! Now f*** off, you miserable gits, and stop sending me those letters!"

This is weird timing, because I just started MGS4 again, the day before yesterday. After just beating Laughing Octopus, I noticed something that's kind of a minor detail, but it's something that just makes Solid Snake all the more great. In fact, one of my favourite things about MGS4 is how it took great characters, but relatively two dimensional ones, and turned them into real people (Meryl and Snake are probably the best examples of this; their body language and eye movements are so perfect in both of their meetings in Act 1 and 3. Snake's distant, Meryl's a bitch. It's perfect.)
Anyway, the bosses in MGS4 got a lot of criticism from some fans but I think they really work. The BB Corps are so unbelievably excessive, and Vamp is so fantastically sinister (I honestly think part of the reason he came back was just so he could be properly captured on the PS3), and Ocelot is so badass. The problem is, they're dealing with Solid Snake. Despite all their technology and insanity, despite their nanomachines and the way he's repeatedly brutalised, Solid Snake is completely unstoppable. Drebin says it best when he says he thinks Snake might be war itself.
Snake's just such a perfect character in MGS4. He's not his father in MGS3, he's the same driven killer he always was. He kills anyone he needs to, he doesn't show the BB Corps any sympathy, he uses whatever he has to hand (such as REX) and he crawls through Hell to complete his mission. He's so determined to complete a mission that won't benefit him in any way, and it's never really clear if it's personal to him. He becomes a hero at the end, but only really by way of doing the job he was hired to do and nothing was ever going to stop him.
Basically, I'm rambling. Also, Snake rules.

Agreed 100% You know, I'm not sure if anyone will agree with me. But I see a lot of Solid Snake's concepts and existence in Jack Bauer too.
