Watching reruns of the old Batman live action show, and I wonder was the Julie Newmar Catwoman and the Eartha Kitt Catwoman suppose to be the same character?
I know the obvious differences, but seriously their personalities are different. Newmar's Catwoman was more like the original Catwoman in the comics, a very complex character, that showed some shades of gray. Had a love / hate relationship with Batman, and occational showed she some form of a heart. They teased in the first two seasons that Catwoman might one day reform. While Kitt's Catwoman was not as complex just a ciriminal that had no feelings for Batman, and showed very little of a heart.
In the comics they was more than one Catwoman, so it is possibly that Catwoman either did reform or her greed did finally get her killed, and some other person decided to take over that personna for her own greedy desires.

Well I don't think they ever used Selina Kyle or any other name to identify her. So it being to different women would work.

Was John Astin's Riddler supposed to be the same character as Frank Gorshin's Riddler?

They were the same character, but since Eartha Kitt was black there was no way at that time she and Batman could have any kind of attraction. Would have gotten them pulled in many markets. So she was just a straight up villain. Look at the outcry over Kirk and Uhura kissing around the same time.

Was John Astin's Riddler supposed to be the same character as Frank Gorshin's Riddler? Yeah but there is only one Riddler in the comics. Anyway it is a shame they changed Catwoman's personality in season 3, I wonder if she still had those conflicting feelings for Batman how she could react to Batgirl. Newmar's Catwoman had a hate / hate relationship with Robin, just imagine how she would feel about Batgirl.
