Is this starting to irritate anyone else? Seriously, it feels like 90% of the pop songs nowadays are just people singing/rapping over far better, less autotuned 80's songs. It makes the person singing come off as uncreative, and in the end I'd rather hear the original.
Good example is Black Eyed Peas with "The Time". They're better than that. They really don't need to rape one of the best movie songs ever.

Thats why Rap is Crap these days. Not too long ago, I was at some store at the mall, I think footlocker, and they had playing in the back round what was remix to Flock of Seagulls I ran. I just felt like asking "Why ruin such a great 80's song with that crap!" Just Crap!

The mutt's nutts, if you will. Normally I'm inclined to agree with both of you fellas, but damned if that song isn't a guilty pleasure of mine.

I thought it was just part of a long tradition of screwing up songs with rap, lest we forget Vanilla Ice and Tupac doing the same thing.

I agree that it's stupid and not creative at all. But if somebody did it with the Wrestlerock Rumble, they'd be my new hero.

Some of the really popular, clubby stuff is less than savory...but rap, in and of itself, is not awful, or uncreative. Just saying.

After getting into an argument with someone younger then me a couple of years ago over that STUPID Flo Rider song, I can agree.

This is what I believe to be one of the biggest crimes of modern music.
Not Lady Gaga.
Not Justin Bieber.
Frickin this.
Edit: Though a few people can get it to work, like Will Smith for example.

Isn't that what's Rap about? Stealing music and then putting some shitty rap over it? I mean from Run DMCs rape of Walk this Way to 2Pac's Changes it's been always like this since the 80's, thoughout the 90's until now. Sometime in the 90's some rap guy even used the Knight Rider Theme for a rap song... People should just accept that Rap isn't the most creative genre in music. (I still laugh about 2002 when Jay Z and Xzibit used Africa from Toto, two different crap rap lyrics but the same music and Nas used it already in 1999 - doesn't it get boring to get the same music over and over again?)

Good example is Black Eyed Peas with "The Time". They're better than that. Agreed, except with the last part. They're really not. More like "And I owe it all to AUTOTUNE"

Rap has always been rapping over somebody else's work. Unless you're RZA.
Honestly samples and all that.
Justin Bieber's new song is catchy though.
