Interim coach Jim Tomsula announced that Alex Smith will be the 49ers' starting quarterback in Week 17 against Arizona.
Alex is in the final year of his contract, so this could easily be his last start as a 49er. Smith has a 12:12 touchdown-to-turnover ratio. He's completing 60.4 percent of his passes.
Browns K Phil Dawson acknowledged Wednesday that Week 17 against the Steelers could be his last game with Cleveland.

So basically, Rothlisberger was suspended for 6 games (initially, reduced to 4) for allegations that couldn't be proven, yet in another case where allegations couldn't be proven it's just a fine? Granted the allegations are different but if Im Rothlisberger, I'd be pretty pissed right now, and this is coming from someone who flat out dislikes everything about him. The league has absolutely no testicles at all. This is a HUGE victory for Favre ballwashers everywhere. I shouldn't be mad, none of us should. We all knew this was going to happen. These allegations surfaced in the spring/summer, but the NFL didn't even start looking into it until halfway through the season. Then they drug their feet, brought Favre in several weeks ago and just decided now that he didn't cooperate so they're going to fine him? Just in time that Sterger can't file a federal lawsuit because the Statute of Limitations comes up? I know she initially didn't want to press the issue, but the NFL dragged her into the offices and then Favre was dragged in a bit later, but for weeks we heard from her spokesman wondering just what the hell was going to happen and why the NFL was dragging it's feet. She may not have any recourse against Favre and the NFL, but what do you want to bet that if that's the case, she'll get pissed and tell her story to whatever scandal sheet or television show will pay her the most money so she can stick it to him in the scandal sheets? Well, that may be her only recourse at this time. And I've heard people take shots at her because of her fake breasts and the fact that she posed in Playboy, but that doesn't take away from the allegations that she made harassment claims. I know some people think less of her for doing so, but she is still supposed to be protected by the same laws as the rest of us. When they were reporting this on ESPN this afternoon, they were practically breathing sighs of relief because this issue is supposed to be reaching closure. If she was truly wronged, I hope that she finds a way to put the screws to Favre, Goodell, and the NFL as a final Snork You.

Brett Favre makes $11,373 per minute of every game. That means he's only giving up 4 1/2 MINUTES OF PAY for Sterger fine
With $50K, Favre could have purchased Wrangler Jeans ($28.99 avg) for every active player on an NFL roster & had 8 pairs left

He is the last remaining member of the 1999 team, and has been a solid piece of the Browns for years. Personally I hope they work out a deal, but if not I hope he lands somewhere outside the AFC north where he can win a championship.

the best part of the whole Farve thing is that his fine is not for exposing himself but for not cooperating with the investigation.
So wearing your socks too high in a game or celebrating a touchdown is bad but flashing your dong is ok.....

Yeah, all those dopes who were suspended needed to just 'not cooperate'.
Brett is a trailblazer.

NFL, Jets, & Favre..............get your lawyers ready because I believe that since no suspension is happening, there is going to be a lawsuit.

So next Sunday, Favre will get to play his "final game", he'll get to go out with all the fawning and adulation that he believes he deserves, and then he'll hijack the off-season again, and we'll be right back at square one next summer. Meanwhile, Joe Webb, a quarterback who was actually productive and led the Vikings to an impressive upset victory last night, will ride the bench, because a washed-up forty-something quarterback absolutely needs his last moment in the spotlight, and he doesn't care who it affects on his team or how it affects the organization as a whole. Quoted for truth. All this, between Favre and the sports media(namely ESPN and NFL Network), has gotten to the point that hardly anybody is going to be sitting there in a couple of years and say "I really wish Brett Favre was still playing." It's been more about how much love the media and the Packers/Jets/Vikings were showing Favre than actually doing the things that he needed to do to put his team in the best position to win. Yeah, he did get close to the Super Bowl twice in the last few years, but it was his play that kept him from returning to the Super Bowl. The last images of John Elway's career is of a guy who checked his ego at the door near the end of his career to do what it took to help the Broncos win back-to-back Super Bowls (including a run for a first down where he sacrificed his body to get the last yards he needed, against Favre's team, no less). The lasting images of the end of Brett Favre's career are going to be him clutching "hurt" body parts when he threw yet another bad interception because he hijacked the playcalling yet again to take the ball out of Adrian Peterson's hands. It's a shame that the prime of a great running back like Adrian Peterson is being wasted to give an aging quarterback who was double-teamed by Father Time and Mother Nature his windmill tilting sucking off.

Matt Maiocco of Comcast SportsNet Bay Area reports that the 49ers "are indeed" interested in Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh as a head-coaching replacement for Mike Singletary.
According to Maiocco, it's "mainly for his ability to develop a quarterback." Harbaugh has "developed" both Josh Johnson and Andrew Luck in his two most recent college stops. Johnson is the athletic young backup for Josh Freeman in Tampa Bay, while Luck is the likely No. 1 pick in the 2011 draft, assuming the third-year sophomore declares
Brett Favre failed another concussion test on Wednesday.
