This movie was enjoyable for what it was, despite having bad acting and being a B-flick to boot, but still enjoyable: Here's a trailer for it: I must warn you, it's pretty hard to find. I was lucky to find a VHS copy at a flea market in late 09. I still have it, too.

Showdown I've seen before. It was actually on the movie channells pretty frequently a few years ago. Its okay, but has a lot of similarities with the Karate kid

You need some Tony Jaa. He'll make your jaw drop to the floor, and as you're picking it up he'll flying knee you in the face. Good stuff.

"Shanghai Express" (aka "Millionaire's Express"). Sammo Hong, Yuen Biao, with bit parts by Cynthia Rothrock and Richard Norton. But I want to know... why not Jackie Chan movies? Because I'm well aware of them all so no advice is really needed. And I'm not really a huge fan of the fight style. Even his pre-US return films like "Police Story"? OK, I'm looking through my old movies and have found a couple of good'uns: Tai Chi 2 (directed by Yuen Woo Ping)Above the Law (the one with Cynthia Rothrock and Yuen Biao)36th Chamber of Shaolin One-Armed Swordsman City of Violence (Korean, a lot like "Kill Bill", lots of fun)The 5 Deadly Venoms Master of the Flying Guillotine (not as silly as it sounds, includes a character that may have been the inspiration for Dhalsim in the Street Fighter games)Dragon Tiger Gate (I'm not a huge fan of movies with a ton of 'wire-work' but this one was a ton of fun... a lot like a video game)All the others I would have suggested were old Jackie/Sammo/Yuen movies. What about gun-fu, like "Hard-Boiled" and "The Killer"?

Best of the Best-actually has a legit cast and acting
Above the Law-Seagal's first and best flick
Time Cop- IMO easily Van Damme's best flick as a whole
The Warriors- not technically a martial arts flick but has great fights
Kung Fu Hustle- fun movie
The Street Fighter- Sonny Chiba flick that was considered rather controversial in terms of violent content

Ong Bak was spectacular, and I'm not even a huge fan of martial arts movies. But that Thai fighting style is just fun to watch.

There's a Thai film called 'Chocolate' (Made by the same guys who made Ong Bak) about a young girl with slight autism who learns Muay Thai by watching and copying the fighters training outside her mothers house. It is a simply brilliant film. There's a fight at the end with another autistic boy who has learned Capoiera that is a must see scene! Just finished it. Awesome movie. The autist on autist scene and the fight outside the buildings was amazing. Only downside is I saw it dubbed. Thanks for the suggestion. Saw Ong Bak yesterday. Is Tony Jaa even human? Not as awesome as the Protecter but pretty damn close. Now I can't choose which recommendation to do next, LOL. Edit. OK, The 36th Chamber of Shaolin it is.

Have you watched Jimmy Wang Yu's stuff? It's pretty good overall. I highly recommend the following by him
Blood of the Dragon Master of the Flying Guillotine The One-Armed Swordsman series Rage of the Masters
A few others... Five Deadly Venoms Blind Fist of Bruce (packaged as Brucesploitation) The Snake-Crane Secret
Oh, and if you haven't seen Ip Man yet, you should. It's a bit more drama than most but it's shot beautifully and the fights are awesome. It's loosely based on the life of the man who had a hand in training Bruce Lee.

Idk if anyone's suggested it yet but "Chocolate" is all kinds of awesome. Though the premise is kinda silly it's still fun to watch.

I'm in the mood for some. Not Li, Lee or Chan. Dang, I was about to recommend Once Upon a Time In China 2, that's my favorite. I'm stumped. Only other ones I liked were Karate Kid and Best of the Best.

So, I just finished The 36th Chamber of Shaolin.
Just awesome. It's gotta be the nr 1 inspiration for training montages. I wouldn't have lasted a day (the headbutting alone, ouch)
Dubbing aside the film was funny and exiting. Notthe biggest numer of fights but when they're that cool the sheer numbers doesn't really matter.
OK, so there is a martial arts flick I saw often as a kid but all I can remember is a tournament and a nazi who killed himself, anyone know?

A couple I don't think got named: Raging Phoenix - JeeJA Yanin from Chocolate True Legend - it's got Heidenreich in it Merantau - the star Iko Uwais is supposed to be the next big star since Tony Jaa joined a monastery pretty much all the Dragon Dynasty titles although not all martial arts, some action films All 3 Ip Man movies are good but the first is definitely the best and not martial arts but for crazy Hong Kong action movies: Run and Kill Untold Story Ebola Syndrome
