But it doesn't always work, because Kaval has lost 95% of his matches since winning NXT. Just look at the whole "losing Bragging Rights spot to Tyler Reks" thing. I guess it was supposed to get Reks instant heat, but the guy still gets no reaction whatsoever. A bit off topic but to defend Reks... I think it's more the WWE's fault for expecting the crowd to suddenly care about someone (who hasn't been on TV for a year) beating a guy who is already injured.

Here's what WWE.com says:
One sentance. And all you can take from that is "Drew kicked Kavals ass and didn't break a sweat". No mention of a pre-match beatdown or whatever, unless you want to look deeper into the "before it started" bit.
I believe Curt Hawkins has actually won more then once this year on Smackdown/Superstars, so Kaval really is at the bottom of the pile right now.

If Kaval isn't buried then I'd really like to know what people would actually consider a burial. This. Seriously, this. The guy has won one match in four months. They burned away his title shot just to get rid of it. He's lost clean to Chavo. They're not even letting him get offense in now. How far down does the hole have to be dug before some of you will admit that they're burying him?

We don't know, maybe he always complain backstage. There must be a reason why he dropped so much.

He can always go back to TNA and job for half the payday. Or go to Japan and be stuck as junior heayweight.
This is why I wish WWE would never hire "indy darlings". Would there be the same amount of rage if he wasn't a big name in the indies? If it was Trent Barretta jobbing, would you care as much? Funny how everyone is quick to cry out buried whenever someone they like loses a match. Ziggler. Miz. Bryan. Sheamus. Morrison. CM Punk. People who according to folks would never recover from losing key matches. And look where they are now. Still jobbing but higher on the card.

I'm not a Kaval fan, but I just don't get it. It's a guy who's proven himself to be able to get over and can definitely go in the ring, at a time when SmackDown is in desperate need of midcard faces, and he's being portrayed as a total loser.

Except for Bryan, not a single one of them started their WWE runs on a four-month-and-counting losing streak that shows no signs of ending any time soon. And even with Bryan, they essentially ignore his NXT run completely. WWE basically treats him as if he didn't exist before Summer Slam. They show no signs of doing that with Kaval. It looks like their basic plans for him are to use him as the new Funaki.

Can you blame them? The guy is a ten year plus pro, and he almost knocked Dolph out with a reckless kick at Survivor Series.

Like alot of other superstars at the moment. But WWE just goes "No,we dont want you to be over" And this is part of the problem. Some people on this board will say that wrestlers have to take control and get themselves over. The problem with that is when they run into booking like this. You have a 0% chance of getting over when you're booked in months-long losing streaks, on the wrong end of 20 second squash matches, and are basically being portrayed as if you simply don't matter. It doesn't matter how talented you are. It's one thing to be given opportunities and squander them (Carlito, for example). But if the WWE doesn't want you to get over, you're not getting over. If you show any signs of getting over when the WWE doesn't want you to, they will book you into the ground. Right now, it looks like their plans for Kaval are to be a bump machine to put over the talent they do care about. They've shown no signs of using him for anything other than that and seem to be hellbent on making sure that not only he but the fans know where his place is on the card.

But when you do get a shot at breaking out, it's usually wise not to nail someone in the face with near full impact.

Call me conspiracy minded, but I could honestly see this as a contributing factor to Kaval's recent setbacks. WWE probably had plans for Kaval post Survivor Series until he nearly caved in Ziggler's face.

Didn't you know? Michael Cole is using backstage politics to keep Kaval down. He's just an overrated Internet darling, after all!

That was burning off his title shot so they didn't have to worry about it any more. It's not like he was going to win that match before botching the kick. Kicking Ziggler like that probably didn't do him any favors, but I doubt he'd be in a much different position had he not kicked him.

I don't think WWE cares that much about continuity, unless they want to give someone a chance. They gave him a chance. He screwed up.

It's not just one match though, it's every match he's had other than the two against Ziggler. WWE is basically telling us we chose the wrong guy to win NXT. Pretty much. I don't know why WWE even introduced fan voting if they were just going to get their panties in a bunch when the fans didn't pick who they wanted. Just leave it like season one, so you can control who wins. You know NXT was a work right? That if WWE wanted anyone else to win they would have... since it's not like they showed who won the fans poll... and they still had the 50% of the pros poll to point to, if someone really popular lost. [ I don't think WWE cares that much about continuity, . Pfft... then how do you explain Kane who has a long and storied history that is not at all contradictory or filled with plot holes

It's not like Riley, McGillicutty and Harris are doing that much better than Kaval anyway. Sure, Riley gets to hang around with the WWE Champion, but he's taking all the bullets right now. And McGillicutty and Harris were little more than warm bodies for Cena to demolish over and over. That doesn't justify Kaval's booking, of course, but I hope that this actually does lead somewhere, possibly that rumoured heel turn and high-profile Mysterio match. He'd probably lose there too, but at least he'd get a win or two to build him up.
