What;s your opinion on product placement in films? I dont mind it when its subtle, like for example, a character drinking a pepsi, basically if the product is part of the background. I DONT like it when its the focal point of the scene, and a character extols the virtues of said product (though thankfully, i cant find many examples of that).

Maybe i'm wrong on this one, but for me, the beast doesn't include selling out.

I'm basically the same as the common answer. As long as the scene in question ins't just an ad for the company but actually just a random ad in the background then I'm cool with it. But when characters start talking like "Oh man (brand X softdrink) is the best ever!" then I start to get weary.

I think it's horrible, terrible, vile stuff and the people behind it and the way they destroy any semblance of integrity - artistic or otherwise - for the sake of an extra dollar is truly disgusting. Completely, truly disgusting.

I only like product placement when it's subtle, like this.

My opinion, with irony removed.
I really hate it, for some reason it doesn't bother me on Seinfeld, but it does on the Big Bang Theory, two shows I really enjoy.
It's almost always awkward and way too noticeable.

American shows don't do the product placement as blatantly as the Mexican novelas. The Mexican novelas are incredibly blatant, especially when you see the cooks using the products. Now that is blatant.

As long as it doesn't keep me from enjoying a cold, refreshing Coca-Cola, I'm fine with it.
Coca-Cola, life begins here.

When it would make sense to have a specific product, I don't mind it.
(I.E X Cop show is sponsored by a Car company, Main Lead's Car happens to be that make)
Or when it doesn't actually detract from the story
(E.T and Reese's Pieces, Alan buying a Porche in Two and a Half Men, the Future-Pepsi from BttF2 (God I want one of those though.....looked awesome))
When it's blatantly obvious that they're doing it JUST to shill the product rather than for natural world-building is when I get offended
(Mac & Me, EVERY Vehicle being a certain brand in 24 (I'm not sure which, but thre's a drinking game about it), Were it not an obvious parody the Mr. Pibb episode of American Dad!)

I don't really mind it too much. I don't know why people always feel the need to be like "OMG HOW MUCH DO YOU THINK THEY PAID TO GET THEIR LOGO IN THE MOVIE WAY TO SELL OUT AREN'T I SO OBSERVANT AND SMART TO RECOGNIZE THIS!!1!". What do you expect? People USE brand name stuff. It's everywhere. You expect two characters to drive down the street in a movie and not see a Taco Bell sign or a Wal Mart? You can't do that in real life. It's not selling out. It's life...

The glaringly obvious moments (IE: Every one in THE WIZARD) irritate me.
The subtler ones, while good intentioned, kind of take me out of the moment at times. (IE: In the Trailer for THOR that I saw today, a Dr. Pepper vending machine is in the background during one of the pivotal scenes)
That being said, I'm still gonna see THOR when it comes out.
