This had John Collins and MECW redux written all over it. I actually got the MECW show off of RF Video years ago and it has to be one of the strangest I've ever seen. Apparently they just let everyone in free for whatever reason. A few of the things I remember from it were Curt Hennig somehow being their champion and having a match with Chris Harris, Buff Bagwell getting booed out of the ECW Arena when he's supposed to be a face and a horrible Sandman vs Sabu main event.

I'm outta the loop on that could you explain sir? MECW was going to be the "next big thing" after WCW folded (but before TNA started). It was run by a guy named John Collins, who was a scam artist. They had tons of pre-pub, and even "invaded" another indy card as promotion. Had one show, then all the checks started bouncing, then Collins started faking heart attacks. There's more to it, but they were a disaster. And they used a whole bunch of ex-ECW stars too, as it started right after ECW folded. So, the promotion's name was sort of a pun ... ECW, MECW ... main eventers were Sabu and Sandman ... yeah, it just makes the whole thing sound even worse, doesn't it? Jed Shaffer ~Glad I'm not the only one who remembers MECW.

Collins hired Tod Gordon as booker, which is why it was heavy on ECW talent. Though that was the only show they ran in Philadelphia, they did run several at the Evansville Coliseum in Evansville, IN before the whole thing fell apart. It fell apart because Collins was using dirty money that had been obtained in a scam by a guy named Garry W. Stroud. Collins and Stroud wound up going to prison for several years as a result. www.sec.gov/litigation/litreleases/lr17853.htmSECURITIES AND EXCHANGE COMMISSION v. GARRY W. STROUD, INDIVIDUALLY AND D/B/A DIAMOND GLOBAL HOLDING TRUST, EURO CREDIT AND EXCHANGE BANK LTD., AND ANGELIC INTERNATIONAL, et al. (U.S.D.C. Western District of Oklahoma, Civil Action No. CIV-01-999-W)
On November 18, 2002, Judge Lee R. West, United States District Judge for the Western District of Oklahoma, held John Collins in civil contempt and ordered him to pay $187,000 to the Court appointed receiver in the case. The Court found that Collins had directly violated and aided and abetted Garry W. Stroud in violating the Court's orders.
Previously, Judge West issued emergency orders, including a temporary restraining order, preliminary injunction, asset freeze and the appointment of a temporary receiver against Garry W. Stroud, an alleged Internet investment swindler operating from British Columbia, Canada, and Lynden, Washington. The Commission's complaint charged Stroud with conducting an ongoing Internet investment scheme that fleeced over 2,200 investors worldwide of approximately $1 million since 1998.
During the course of pursuing its claims against Stroud, the Commission learned that Stroud, prior to suit, had caused in excess of $200,000 of investor funds to be diverted to Collins for the purpose of promoting a professional wrestling enterprise named "Main Event Championship Wrestling." Immediately after the Court issued its preliminary injunction, Collins was served with a copy of the Court's orders, which, among other things, continued to freeze Stroud's assets. The Court found that after Collins became aware of the Court's orders, Collins accepted $162,000 in wire transfers from Stroud and then spent the money in violation of the asset freeze order. The Court also found that Collins had refused to turnover receivership property in his possession, worth approximately $25,000, despite the receiver's repeated demands for possession of the property. www.sec.gov/litigation/litreleases/lr18421.htmCOURT IMPOSES 71 MONTH SENTENCE FOR VIOLATING A COMMISSION ASSET FREEZE
On October 1, Judge Stephen P. Friot, U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Oklahoma, sentenced John E. Collins to a term of 71 months in federal prison, plus three years supervised release, and ordered him to pay $290,000 in restitution in connection with his obstructing an SEC investigation and willful violation of a court ordered asset freeze.
Collins previously entered into a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Oklahoma pursuant to which he pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction of justice and one count of wire fraud. These violations are the subject of the Commission's civil contempt proceedings against Collins in the Western District of Oklahoma. In its contempt action, the Commission alleged that Collins had willfully violated the terms of an asset freeze order entered against Garry W. Stroud and aided and abetted Stroud in violating the terms of the asset freeze order. On Nov. 18, 2002, Judge Lee R. West, U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Oklahoma, found Collins in civil contempt and ordered him to turn over $187,000 in property obtained from Stroud both before and after the entry of the asset freeze order. In response to Judge West's order to turn over funds and property to the receiver in the Stroud case, Collins faxed to the receiver's office a bogus promissory note allegedly signed by a third- party agreeing to pay the money due under the contempt order. Simultaneously with his efforts to deceive the receiver, Collins raised an additional $100,000 from other victims in a separate scheme. As a consequence of the bogus promissory note, and his failure to comply with the contempt order, Judge West ordered Collins incarcerated to coerce his compliance. At the time of his incarceration, the FBI swore out a criminal complaint against Collins, which ultimately led to his plea. [U.S. v. John E. Collins, USDC, WD/OK, Criminal Action No. CR-03-033-1- F]; [SEC v. Garry W. Stroud, et al., USDC WD/OK, CIV-01-999-W] (LR- 18421)

If I remember correctly MECW was originally billed as a new NWA more then a new ECW. This Collins guy was working with Tracy Smothers and they were supposed to run two territories in two different parts of the country (Philadelphia and Memphis I believe) under the MECW name, expanding out to other territories as business grew, eventually becoming a national company. The thing I remember most about that Philly show was there was some kind of controversy with New Jack. Apparently he wasn't booked for the show or even invited, but he just kinda showed up expecting to work because he's New Jack and they're in Philadelphia. So Gordon and Collins say "what the hey, why not?" and let him have a match. They tell him don't let it go longer then like 6 minutes though and try to tone down the extreme violence. New Jack goes out there, drags the match out twice as long, makes it as gory as possible, then afterwards cuts a "shoot" on the guys running the show.

Wasn't the last report posted something something about being push to Jan? Not that it means nothing. because I recall Sabu being signed with this company. Sabu the guy who spend the last what Four months in TNA. I'm willing to bet Sabu doesn't even know what WWP is. As for everyone else who "signed". I'm willing to bet if you walked up to any of them. They be like What the WWP? Never heard of it. You try to explain it. They will still be like I don't know what your talking about. That sounds like wishful thinking that I could wrestle and get health insurance.
I remember MECW, too. I thought The Sandman was a booker as well. I just remember one show and that was it. It was more like ECW then NWA basiced on Style. No matter how to put it. Sabu and Sandman as your top talent spells ECW. Funny about that New Jack stuff. Because there MEer Sandman only does Extreme style really. Or that what a less fans expect for him or what made him popular. While else did WCW have hardcore at the time he came in. because they knew he wouldn't work any other way.
