Audiences want juvenile humor. Just look at how popular Cena is.

Audiences want THE GUY. They want a Stone Cold, Rock, or Hogan, one guy that they can really get behind. The most popular television shows are centered around one awesome character, who's usually a "heel", but is also interesting and shows signs of having a heart. Kenny Powers, Ari Gold, Michael Scott, House, I don't watch much tv but thats the s*** that gets people watching these days. John Cena? Not so much. The PG environment isn't the worst thing, but it restricts in terms of character growth. Wrestlers can't really be as big of assholes as they need to be in order to get noticed. CM Punk and Randy Orton are examples of guys that have found a way to be total bastards under the PG guidelines, and I think those are the kinds of characters that draw the masses. They just need to be booked better, booked stronger, booked at the top, the focus of the show. Wrestling needs a heel champ that fans can get really interested in, show signs of turning face to make the crowd realize that its exactly what they want to happen, then let 'em down, break their hearts. Chris Jericho was pulling this off brilliantly around Summerslam last year. The Rock pulled it off perfectly in 98. It would take a lot of subtlety from creative, but hey, if they don't want to be "just a rasslin show" then you gotta step your game up and write on a deeper level.

This is kind of a loaded question, but I'll tell you what I want.
Right now and for the last few years I feel that wrestling as entertainment has been bland and on the same level as tacky television shows. I don't feel there is the write type of people writing the storylines anymore and its ceased to be its own entity and is just another thing on TV.
I agree with a lot of the points made. A megastar is absolutely necessary. Right now it feels that WWE is a very good team that needs that one guy to get them over the hump.
It just feels like the entire industry has been treading water for the last few years. There are moments that make it interesting, but the hot shot angles, the lack of cohesive storylines outside of the main event, and the quick gulp segments really water the shows down.
While I do believe that wrestling is cyclical, which is a cliche if I've ever heard one, I don't know if that cycle will be broken anytime soon with the almost complete change in culture in creative. Going from people who know wrestling to people who's experience comes from writing sitcoms. Theres not much setting it apart from a lot of stuff on television these days.

I believe audiences want an exciting, original, unpredictable, and talented product that doesn't insult their intelligence or rip them off.
One of the statements that makes me shake my head and question the taste of certain fans is "Well, the internet killed the aura of wrestling." That statement to me doesn't hold water as Vince can still create an exciting, original, and unpredictable product via the internets power. I think a lot of times that statement is used just to excuse or apologize for the WWE's lack of creativity these days.
To even out the thought process there are moments when the WWE creates something that catches my attention.
For example, Nexus debut and their attack on Cena, the announcers, and destroying the Raw set. That was fun, exciting, intense, and made you wonder what was going to happen next. Eventually they turned Nexus into a bunch of comical, idiotic, and unorganized thugs who kept on losing to Cena.
I want wrestlers I care about to be featured more often, I want to see the lesser known talents be given a chance, I want better and more exciting wrestling, I want intense feuds to be more realistic and have some blood without the match being stopped, and I don't want to see the overcoming the odds cliche used time nd time again.
I want to see great tag team matches and storylines again.
That's what I want as a fan. What everyone wants from me is obviously very different, however, I see a lot of fans in this forum and other forums that have great ideas and could book a great show that even the kiddies could get into.

Not to be a stereotypical woman about this, but I want relationships in my male soap opera. I want longtime friendships being acknowledged and mattering to storylines. I want longtime rivalries coming back to influence current feuds. I want to know the characters... why they're doing what they're doing, and I want it to make sense.
I also want over-the-top gimmicks and unapologetic cheese. I want high-quality TV matches based on storylines that I either care about or am amused by. I want midcard feuds that have some thought and planning behind them, and I want dedicated tag teams whose teamwork is their strength. Someone said this before, and I agree... I want to know that on any given night, a great tag team could take down a slapped-together pairing of two top stars, because they're more than the sum of their parts. I'd like it if the top stars weren't as strong as five average wrestlers such that they could squash any number of midcarders in a handicap situation... being as strong as two men ought to be enough.
I'd like a stronger, more athletic and character-driven women's division. I'd like some good managers. I want less caution and more courage from the performances (not in a danger sense, but in a "go out on a limb with this" sense).
I want it all, darn it!

Wanting continuity to matter isn't being a stereotypical female. Hell, if they went back to acknowledging Edge and Christian as brothers (one of my annoyances) or even mentioned some of the stuff Orton pulled in his feuds with Cena and Triple H this summer, it would be awesome. Actually...you about sum it up. THIS is what I want out of wrestling. Not that hard, eh?

Honestly, I've already got most of what I want. WWE's in-ring action's been more exciting to me as of late, I like most of the guys at the top of the card (Cena, Sheamus, Miz and Punk in particular), the storylines are intriguing to me, and I actually enjoy a lot of the non-Hornswoggle comedy.
Most of what I'd like to see is fairly minor. A few more strongly-booked tag teams that stick together, letting the young guys improvise more, an occasional bladejob for a major turning point in a story, and a new logo. That's all.
I'm really not clamoring for WWE to start passing itself off as "real", or to make their product look more realistic. The cat's been out of the bag, so why stuff it back in? Let Undertaker have his lightning bolts.
