Will these type of gimmick matches, provided they occur every once on a blue moon, whether on tv or ppv, go over in the WWE?
1) Leather strap match 2) Dog collar match 3) Blind fold match 4) Coal miner's glove match 5) Four corner's match (one might have occurred recently, I'm not sure)
It has been a while since I have actually seen someone perform most of these kinds of matches. I think that it would be something new and different for today's fans, and it wouldn't hurt that it occurs in the PG Era, or would it be too outdated and maybe too violent? I remember Rick Martel in one of these types of matches years ago. I think his opponent was either Jake Roberts, or Randy Savage.

I beleve that the Model took on Jake Roberts And it went over like a sack of wet s***. Really? It has been years and years since I have seen it, but I remember loving this match as a kid. It seemed like a fun match in which IIRC Martel had the best mannerisms and the crowd was hot anticipating the DDT. Not a ***** classic, but I thought it was a good gimmick match.

I thought it was leading to a blindfold match at Summerslam 2008 between Jericho and HBK.

I could see a strap match working alright, given the right people. Dog collar might too violent and the other stips a bit outdated.
I see someone like Sheamus doing well in a strap match.

most of those matches are neither too violent or too outdated, they just suck. such as B and C and D.
I would like A or E. As long as they don't try the choking spot, it wouldn't be too violent as its built up to keep people close together. A good story would be the Miz running away from a dangerous foe.

Blind fold matches are God's punishment for a sinful world. They shouldn't go over in any era.

Blind fold matches are God's punishment for a sinful world. They shouldn't go over in any era. the only two I've seen were HHH/D'lo (played for laughs) and Storm/Harris in TNA (horrible, horrible match). Jamie Noble did one too, I think - but they just don'e work. I just saw a dog collar match at IPW and that was a little to violent for the kiddies. Then again, the participants tend to do that... Punk and Umaga had a strap match, didn't they? I remember Punk getting all tied up and whipped before the PPV. The other two are a bit outdated, but Eddie did make his a lot of fun (Vs. JBL)

Dog collar/chain/strap matches can all be effective when used properly. Basic premise leading to the match should be one wrestler keeps running from the other so they tie them together.
The touching four corners/bullrope matches are a bit too gimmicky, wrestling should always be about pinning or beating your opponent first rather than anything else.
The others should never be done again.

I remember both bullrope and strap matches happening fairly recently. Punk had a strap match in 2009 at Extreme Rules, and Shad and JTG had the 4-corners strap match.

If the Coal Miner's Glove match ever resurfaced in a major promotion, I would be utterly astonished.

Isn't the Coal Miner's Glove Match, just basically a "something" on a pole match?

Isn't the Coal Miner's Glove Match, just basically a "something" on a pole match? Yup. One problem with a Coal Miner's Glove match is that why would someone work so hard to get a weighted glove when they can just bash their opponent with a chair or throw them through a table? Wrestling getting more violent makes such a match obsolete.
