Minute I saw he was trying to get pitbulls I thought Michael Vick. Thought it was pointless & in bad taste. Awfully presumptive since no legitimate reference to dog fighting was made. I wouldn't say it was too presumptive. I would be hard pressed to come up with another possible reason for it. Unless the payoff to the gimmick is that he is an animal hoarder.

What's the point of turning Pope heel now? Immortal controls everything, and two of the three major faces now (RVD, Anderson and Morgan) are fighting.
We've seen Joe, RVD, Angle and Sting at the top already, making Pope one of the few fresh babyfaces with serious momentum behind him. And they didn't run with him why again?

For whatever reason - in the US, when people hear "pit bull" they are, unfortunately, associated with one of two things. Pit bull dog fighting and this man: Sad considering pitbulls are not naturally that way (prone to fighting).

Dog fighting is definitely not the first thing that came to mind for me. I think it's nice of Pope to buy puppies for his congregation. :] Either that, or they're going to be trained to maul Abyss.

Because TNA hates logic, reason and profit apparently.

As long as Russo's still part of the booking it can be easily believed that something tasteless is going to happen. That's his M.O.

Being a resident Virginian who had this Michael Vick nightmare as local news.......
If this is a legit storyline idea, I will go find the person who decided this idea would be good so I can punch them in the freakin' face.

The booking of the Pope since coming to TNA has been so awful it's almost making it impossible to ever like him again.

He obviously bought the dogs in preparation for the upcoming kennel from hell match with Abyss

I didn't see the segment, but maybe they're trying to play off the real life Michael Vick situation? For whatever reason - in the US, when people hear "pit bull" they are, unfortunately, associated with one of two things. Pit bull dog fighting and this man: Who is that? I live in the US and don't recognize him.

Maybe I'm reading less into it than most people, but I just read the whole thing as Pope going out and spending "congregation" money on something inappropriate to the reason people donated it. I'm not seeing the whole pitbull/Pope as dogfighter thing so much as Pope the "benevolent charitable" figure who in fact squanders the money he receives instead of sending it where it was intended (by the people who donated it) to go.
Sort of like Pope spending cash on a ferrari, on the grounds that as the leader of the congregation, he needs fast reliable transport to enable him to "get out there and do his work" or that Pope is spending the money on "the kids" and that, in his opinion, nothing would benefit the kids more than seeing their Pope in an expensive suit wearing lots of heavy gold chains (all paid for out of the congregation's donations of course).
Maybe I'm cutting TNA more slack than I ought to here, but that's just how I see it at the moment.

As long as Russo's still part of the booking it can be easily believed that something tasteless is going to happen. That's his M.O. In other words, because you want to find a way to bash Russo's booking, you're going to look for any way to criticize an angle (even if the angle you're critical of is fabricated). Unfortunately, all too common a circumstance.

Well, he is a Douchebag so maybe, sorry I just hate this guy, Reggueton singers are our own Justin Beiber/Souljia Boy here in Mexico.

I doubt it's going to be his actual gimmick. Just with that, and him taking all the money to a strip club a few weeks ago, and all that, they are just trying to show that his "congregation" is a scam. Not that the audience does not already know this. Everyone knows that he is just a pimp that uses religious overtones as a thin veil. It even says in his entrance music that "Pope is Pimpin'"The fact that he is so entertaining at it is what made him a babyface to begin with.

I live in the US and don't recognize him. I'm assuming it's Michael Vick. I don't think this will leading a "dog fighting" angle or anything. It's just like the strip club incident, they are painting him as an unsavoury character. Bit stupid to turn one of their more popular faces heel though. Unless this is a heel filming him and taking things out of context to make him look bad. I.e. he went to the strip club to help the strippers get out of there, and was giving them money to go back to education. And he was buying those pitbulls, to save them being bought andf used in dog fighting. I doubt the TNA writers would go that route, but I hope that is where it is leading. Heel Pope is pointless as the crowd just want to cheer the guy
