I honestly don't get the big deal about it.
Its basically on parent company with two different brands that have two wildy different fuctions - so why shouldn't they be different site as well?
A lot of the complaints just feels like "Change is bad!" instead of citing actual reasons why its bad.
Its not that confusing or time consuming to manage two different sites if you want to do streaming and DVD, because I would imagine that most people who use the streaming feature manage their cue from their TV or streaming device (Roku player).
I barely ever go to the netflix site as it is (in fact the last time I was there was to switch from DVD/streaming to streaming only).

Before, if you had something on your DVD queue, and it become available for instant streaming, it would pop up on the instant queue. Also, having two sites means two completely different systems for rating movies.
It is just needlessly making things more complicated, for no conceivable reasons other than
1. Trying to deflect negative bad press, much like Comcast rolling out 'Xfinity"/Trick people into signing up for it
2. They are trying to kill of the DVD portion of it, and when that happens, they want the brands separate so as to not negatively affect the Netflix brand
3. They are in panic mode after the price hike made customers leave in droves, and making stupid decisions (See also naming something Qwikster without checking that the twitter of that same name is owned by a foul-mouthed pothead, and naming something that immediately brings to mind a failed Facebook competitor)

It's amazing how in 20 days, Netflix has not just bit the hand that feeds, but completely gnawed off the hand that feeds. It's like they are proactively going out of their way to alienate loyal customers and decimate any goodwill they had established with the general public. You'd think they were bordering on filing Chapter 11 if they weren't already making money hand-over-foot, with some of the idiotic decisions they've made as of late.
However, because they have driven every video-rental company out of business, they know that they're the only game in town, so they can do whatever they want. Redbox doesn't pose any sort of threat, because they do not provide a streaming website, and their selection is no different than any Blockbuster was.
I've gone from the two-at-a-time rental system down to one-at-a-time, and I'd probably cut it down to exclusively streaming, if I weren't so confident that their streaming selection is about to be gutted within the next 6-12 months, as companies such as Disney start to follow Starz's lead and remove themselves entirely from the Netflix streaming operation.

That Oatmeal comic is unfunny and totally not what the Netflix situation is like.

Is this something Netflix has always done? Or is this just damage control?
They took a week to process my last one, I can only assume due to the restructuring.

Actually Dreamworks just signed a new deal with Netflix & I don't think Starz is such a big deal of a network that anyone would really be following their lead.

They go ahead and send an extra for the time - it come up with Evangelion and Scarface for me. Now, then there was the clusterf*** that was me getting Karin from them. First they sent discs one and two - one arrived, but somehow two wound up reaching them the same day one reached me. They followed this up by sending the first disc of Negima despite having the other Karin DVDs on hand, then sent disc three of it. I just sent them all back and moved Karin as a whole back onto the list but further down.
