I can't believe there is no thread for the greatest sports league in america. The WNBA started this week. I am so excited, the hell with the NBA Finals, the Stanley Cup finals, baseball, the French Open, auto racing, this is the real sport of america.

I honestly had no clue this thing was still going. I thought it folded years ago.

I love the commercial they are running during the Finals with NBA and WNBA players saying that "basketball is basketball" and promoting the WNBA season.
Sure basketball is basketball. But one is just a really boring and mostly bad brand of it.
Don't you try and con me into watching the WNBA!

Interesting WNBA tidbit. MY first trip to DC I wanted to eat at the ESPN SportsZone. We had to be given a room in the lower levels for a Washington Mystics Draft Party. It was a sad day for me.

I think I know the way to get men interested in the WNBA, replace the players with cartoon ponies. That will bring in many fans. Watch the ratings sky rockets if you have Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash and the rest of the pony gang be the players in the league.

Candace Parker and Maya Moore playing against one another cause me to at least change over to NBATV and watch for a bit during the commercial break for the Astros game.

Yeah...
My folks got season tickets for the first 2 seasons of the Cleveland Rockers...
I hated my life every time I was there...
Sad thing is my dad got them at a massive discount (through the second season) through his office. The first season, they were thinking it would explode in popularity, so the season ticket prices rivaled the Cavs (who... any one who lived in Cleveland at the time can tell you how awesome THEY were in the late 90's...), only to plummet to almost $5 a game for season tickets, and the price for food at the snack bars were pretty much like $1 for a bag of popcorn.
I kid you not, at one game I was at, we heard a person fart from ACROSS THE ARENA!

No. I do not think that would help one bit.

I remember reading in SI last year or maybe this year that one of the WNBAs best players might have just taken the season off because most players play in the WNBA and in Europe almost year round. Europe pays alot more but WNBA is where they get the exposure to make that more money in Europe.

I keep seeing ads for the Chicago Sky shoe-horned in on different cable channels ("Are. You. Game?"). They promote the team, they tell you tickets as low as X-dollars, but I don't think they ever said anything about when the season started.
See, right there is a problem.

I see Seatlle has a basketball team at Key Arena, but it's a WNBA team.
The thing I don't get about their uniforms is that in the area where the team name is supposed to be (at least in the NBA), it's replaced with a sponsor name. I keep thinking that I'm seeing the "Seattle Bing" Vs. the "Phoenix LifeLock." When the hell did the WNBA make that change?

I stopped caring when the Shock moved from Detroit to Tulsa. I think I remember hearing that Marion Jones play for them now.

It'd be a lot easier to care if the league was actually broadcast on TV. I was actually kind of excited to watch the Minnesota Lynx' first game the other night, till I found out it was only being shown on tape delay the next day. By then, I already knew the score. Why bother watching a game when you already know how it turned out?
Seriously, if they want the league to succeed, it needs some actual exposure. Most people don't even know the league is still in operation.

I'd rather watch the WNBA than either team in the NBA finals right now.
