This dude was poised to be the next Will Smith, and I actually heard a few people call him that around the time of Drumline, and now, he's stuck doing station IDs on Nickelodeon's C-list teen network. Where in the world did he go wrong?

He currently hosts "America's Got Talent", which is watched by MILLIONS of viewers during the summer. Plus, he's married to Mariah Carey, so I'd say his career is going just fine.
Then again, he was at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest earlier this week...

I don't even know what counts as success anymore. yea, that does seem like a drop, but I think he'll be eternally A-list as long as he's with Mariah Carey. I'm not saying she's carrying him really, but it's like Steven Tyler on American Idol-it'll keep his name out there.
I think it's the times really, hard to fathom, but these days, Anthony Quinn or Lucille Ball might have to have a reality show, or appear of some competition show if they were just starting out.
We don't see Will Smith doing a lot right now, he's lucky, he can still somewhat pick and choose, and besides, his kids' careers are keeping him busy.

Well, then I kind of retract the topic of this thread.

I have yet to see Cannon show the level of acting range that Will Smith possesses, so that comparison needs to go.
But he is doing pretty good overall.

I think the comparison is to good ol' everybody loves the Fresh Prince Will Smith, rather than UBER-SRS I-can-pop-out-a-tear-because-I-grafted-Denzel's-DNA-onto-my-own-for-critical-acclaim Will smith.

I'm still waiting on "Love Don't Cost A Thing 2". C'mon Nick...it's been like 8 years.

Speaking as a fan of both, does anyone else get a sort of Roger Rabbit/Jessica Rabbit vibe from Nick and Mariah?

I'm guessing that Underclassman ruined his chances of being an action star. Combining the Beverly Hills Cop with Never Been Kissed is just a bad idea all around (Similar plot to BHC but Cannon pretending to be a high schooler).

He's the father of Mariah Carey's baby. He is set for life whether he has a career or not.

What's Nick Cannon's problem?
He's Nick Cannon.

What's Nick Cannon's problem? He's Nick Cannon. basically. He's one of the five corniest guys in the world, so I'd say he's right on pace to be Will Smith, only far less successful.

Personally, I never really got the comparisons.
I think Nick Cannon is insanely unfunny.

What's a Nick Cannon? Is that the gun that shoots gak or something? Well, he was on Nickelodeon, so I wouldn't be surprised if that happened at some point.

That guy makes money literally every minute. He's doing just fine. He just parlayed his career in front of the screen into one behind it.

Fun fact: I want to HS w/ Nick Cannon. Funner fact:I didn't know him, nor even knew he went to my HS until a girl who was a fan of his told me.
The exact convo when I worked at Hollywood Video: "You went to Monte Vista right?" "Yeah" "What year?" "1999" "OMG, you went to HS w/ Nick Cannon!" "I did?"

Anybody remember when he came out with a rap album? I have a feeling that a lot of people don't because I don't think it was that big of a hit, and it came out so long ago. I never hear his two singles played on any stations anymore, like "Feelin' Freaky" or "Gigolo."
