I guess I'd be more pissed if the GL line was completely changed but seeing as that's intact, I'm not writing this thing off as something horrible.
I only really like Alan Scott and Jay Garrick on the JSA and that's only cause I like the GLs and The Flash go figure, so I'm not really to mad about that.

I have a feeling that you are a relatively new fan, just from what you type, could be totally wrong.
But seen as you have pointed out something you really like, like the GL stuff, imagine now if you would that this announcement had been made and they had announced that they were rebooting the GL line just as much as everyone else and were taking out things you really liked about the character, or removing certain elements from certain stories that you really enjoyed.
Do that, and then perhaps you will understand why so many of us are getting pissy about all these changes; changes that quite a few people dont even see the point of and changes that remove the work of alot of people that both undervalues and undermines alot of what we like so much about certain characters.

I will admit I was planning on cutting back on my DC purchases when this started, but the comic service I order from, DCBService.com, had such a fantastic deal on all of the new #1's, that I ordered there bundle.
Basically, you can buy all 52 issues for about 79 bucks, plus shipping. I just had to take advantage of that.

Sinestro is a Green Lantern again Actually given his arc over the last few years and the reboot/movie, this could actually work.

...So it turns out DC wasn't lying when they said the new Green Lantern of Earth after War of the Green Lanterns would shock.
Brilliant.

Actually the more I think about it it, the more I think its genius. If alters the status quo in a fascinating way, continues to develop a character thats been AMAZING since Rebirth and offers all sorts of narrative possibilities.
However, the genius of the idea of offset by a slightly annoying realisation. If they really follow through on this (which I doubt given comics track record in general) that means that the main beneficiary of this partial reboot... is a Geoff Johns project. Honestly, after 3 or so months of teasers and info, the only stuff I feel its actually benefitting from the reboot is Superman and possibly Green Lantern. And even then, the Green Lantern stuff is still pretty much following on from everything thats been done for the past 3-4 years. However the potential cost seems dear. They're cancelling popular and critically acclaimed series (Secret Six, Batgirl) and eradicated other concepts that have been annhilated before to detrimental affects (JSA). The Bat universe is gonna take a hit due to the pure continuity problems taken by them keeping most of the major Batman stories of the last 20 years but wrapping it into a 4-5 year timeframe. I mean why acknowledge it? The majority was happy with accepting time dilation possibilities and its not like they're going back to Grayson as Robin so... WHATS THE POINT!
And thats my problem with that all of this? What is the point? Why are we returning to the dark age of gimmick no.1s and gimmick changes?
The more I hear the more I think there are comics coming out in September that I'm incredibly excited for. I can't wait to see Morrison's Action Comics and Damien acting as Robin against a Bruce Wayne Batman. But honestly, why is there any need for a reboot? I really, really, don't get it.
But we'll see. I'm not as negative as I was. Hell I'm actually interested in seeing what happens. But I still don't get it. I just don't understand why this is necessary or what the benefits will be apart from a single or two month sales hike, until everything starts picking up 2-3 titles due to the price again.
But meh, I'm rambling, tally-ho.

I'm afraid I am still pretty negative about it.
The only thing that will get me interested is if it manages to get friends who dont generally read comics to be interested, in which case I will care so that I can finally talk to them about comics.
However, in general, it just seems like a massive slide to the 90s with alot of the rebooted characters and a good few of the changes and stuff seem to be removing alot of the things that got me interested in certain characters, so while I'm not as vehemontly against as I was, I'm still a bit annoyed and still very sore that S6 is gone.

I agree with ALL of your complaints. However, for me at least, theres enough series that I'm interested in to calm my vitriol. I know you're not a fan of Superman but... I actually have faith in Morrison to do something amazing. His new, non-fiction book about Superman is out this week and you're damn sure I'll be picking it up.
But even ignoring that... Apart from Secret Six and Batgirl I'm not missing much. Yeah I'm annoyed and I mean REALLY annoyed at those cancellations. But at the same time... theres a lot of new series that I'm interested in. And its kinda balancing out.
We can't expect the status quo to always stay the same. I've only been reading comics since 1995 and only regularly since 2002 and even I'm annoyed at the continuity changes (BRING BACK WALLY WEST!!!!!.... ahem) But we also have the right to be annoyed as f*** when amazing series get cancelled for no good reason. But for me, theres enough interesting stuff coming out to keep me engaged and I have enough series such as Batman, Superman and Booster Gold to keep me passionate.

I cant get overly annoyed y the changes until we see the changes and know how far reaching they are.
Things like Tim Drake possibly having never been a Robin, which was the original rumour (I think it's changed now), are ridiculous and totally change the character. Similarly, for me, giving Sinestro the Green ring back is basically a massive removal of some damn good stories from continuity, depending on how they do it.
Along with the cancellations, it's that that is annoying me, and worrying me the most. It's all well and good to say that those stories happened and one can still enjoy them, but re-reading something like, say, Killing Joke now and realising that that story is either deleted or massively changed means that story has lost its impact and gravitas. This essentially means that alot of things I've bought and enjoyed over the years could now be, continuity wise speaking, totally worthless.
It's that thought process, which people at DC must have had, and then their decision that that was all fine anyway, that annoys me the most.
That and S6. If they had just kept S6, and Gail writing it, I think I'd have forgiven most anything.

While we're on the topic of GL, can I just say how irritating it is that they redesigned all these characters yet didn't take the opportunity to change Hal's stupid white gloves? Honestly, they'd look better green.

I've never quite gotten the 'its out of continuity argument'. I love Killing Joke, I think its fantastic. And yes I'm annoyed they're taking her out of the chair, but that won't ruin my own continuity. Personally I think they are so many comic books the possibilities of a functional 'official' continuity is all but impossible for the simple reason that all stories end. Since there are so many comic books, so many characters, so many writers... you're never going to get the consistency that you would in a Harry Potter series, or a Northern Lights series, or a Lord of the Rings series. There are comics from the 30s, 40s and 50s that i LOVE that are in no way relevant to current contuinity (even with Morrison awesomesauce ), but i'll continue to enjoy even if they're not in continuity. Because we're dealing with modern myths by now. It doesn't matter what Batman actually DID... I just want to read great stories about Batman. And that for me is what divides the great superheroes from other fictional characters... that they're ascended above pure narrative. I can read Detective Comics #27 followed by Batman : RIP without having narrative whiplash. But this isn't me trying to change your mind. I'm not a continuity guy but I totally understand why someone else would be and I'm not gonna judge you for hating everything. And yes, cancelling Secret Six is an Arrested Development level tragedy.

could be... but I'd rather it be like the Authority, where Midnighter and Apollo's backgrounds were vague. it made them more interesting. kinda like how Wolverine was before they came up with that "dog mutant" crap.
