Here's what I'm kinda finding confusing about this thing. Some of the titles do come off like a genuine reboot, a sort of "start from scratch" thing, while others (like the Bat-titles), seem to be simply a sort of a continuation of what they're currently doing, but with some changes, like when they did that "One Year Later" thing a few years back.
The thing is that is the kind of thing that always has gotten DC in trouble in the past. Either go completely all-in, or don't bother.
I must be in the minority, but I kind of like the new revamped costumes of the Super-characters. They keep the spirit of the original costumes, but ypdate them just enough to be kind of modern.
I would love to see Gail tackle She-Hulk if she went over to Marvel.

I did like how Topless Robot described Superboy as being Mac from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Secret Six is done with, and King Shark and Deadshot get crappy 90's-riffic redesigns? Yeah, peace, DC, it's been real.

I hate this "soft reboot" they're doing. They have done this numerous times over the last several years. I wish they had the balls to just start from scratch. A total revamp with say 12 or so titles featuring DC's biggest stars, made easily accessible to new fans of all ages. Then, after a year or so they can do a big storyline where the Justice League forms, and spin some new books out of it.
Rebooting is fine, but half-ass rebooting with 52 titles all at once with the same creators that already work there and multiple titles for some characters is only going to alienate the mainstream audience they should be trying to appeal to.
As for me, it's actually turning me off of DC. Not even necessarily because of what they're doing, but because so far the books pretty much all look like they are going to suck.
I'll try the first few issues of these and see if anything holds my interest:
Green Lantern (main book) Justice League Aquaman Wonder Woman
That's a small fraction of books compared to my pre-September DC reading.

Just a side note, but Gail used to write for Marvel. She wrote the best Deadpool and the awesome (IMO) Agent X mini.

sorry, as ong as Joe Kelly's Deadpool run is around, Gail could only hope to write a second or third best version (what no love for Fabian Nicieza?)

So, this is to essentially start the digital downloading process of comics while providing a good starting point for people (like me) who usually don't pick up a comic because they assume they'll be clueless as to what's happening since it's issue 583 or whatever.
I think if they avoid overcharging for the digi-DL, they should be fine and might reinvigorate their process. Of course, I'm on the outside looking in, so what do I know?

I think it's a shame, and indicative of modern culture tht people feel they need their own number 1 to feel involved. Comics have history, everyone knows this, and frankly, in the modern age of Wikipedia, downloads and the ease of getting trades, there really isn't an 'outside looking in' argument to be had, bar from lazy people and those who aren't really interested anyway and just want an excuse. IMO anyway. I started reading in about 1996 when I was 12/13 and caught up where I needed to or just went with it when I didn't get things. It never put me off. Look at day time soaps. Ther run for decades and people tune in and out all the time. Coronation Street and Eastenders (or insert an American Soap) don't rebrand and reboot everytime they lose a few viewers.

I never found it that complicated to get into a new book, even if it was on issue #236. Practically every 5th issue they do at least a corner blurb about how and why someone got their powers for example.

Exactly. for instance, I jumped onto Marvel's Thunderbolts at about issue 141, I think. Thunderbolts was a book with about a decade and change worth of history, and a pretty fluid line-up, but with one wikipedia search, I was instantly clued into everything that was going on.

The first comic book I ever read (back when I was 7 or 8) was Iron Man #222.

Gawd what i would not give to see what Gail could do with my Psylocke if she ever jumped back on the marvel ship, because gawd knows if it aint her history it's her powers that no one can stay consistent with.
Atleast superman doesn't wear his underwear outside now ..i bet he is a happy kryptonian for that.

it really doesn't bother me that much, because going by DCs history, they undo any retcons in five years tops..
The only people who are pissed off at this are long time readers, the people who post on comic forums and obsess over Batman vs Flash, when the logical answer is pretty obvious.
Casual readers are a dangerous demographic to cater to. They may watch the movies and buy a couple of books, decide it's not worth their time to follow storylines and history, and go back to catching up with the movie versions.
I know for a fact that 90% of the people who claim to know all about Harry Potter, have based their knowledge on the movies, and have never bothered to pick up the books. Ditto for LOTR and Twilight even..

You know for as much as I'm annoyed at this whole seebang, I am salivating at a new Justice League International series. And its being written by Jurgens!
No matter what else, that book I'm picking up.

Yeah. Now I have settled down, while I will miss Secret Six beyond belief, I think there are a good few comics I may end up picking up looking at the big list. Still think DC will lose money in my case from the amount I will drop, but I'm done hating one things until they're released.

It\'s a minor thing, and I\'m sure they\'ll go back to correct numbering by the time it came around, but the fact that they\'re starting Action Comics with a #1 when it just hit #900 and could legit be the first ever comic to get a #1000 makes me sick.
