I have been watching the Rocky Films recently. The loveable underdog champion who has the heart to defeat all of his physically superior opponents.
How do you think this would work in the WWF? Would you want an average, down to earth champion who battles the Giants, Foreign Threats overcoming the odds to keep the title?
or do you rather the larger than life Superhero?

Given DBD's success I'd say it can work very well in the WWE/F.

I'd rather a ninja, with all the accoutrements of that profession... invisibility, shuriken stars, teleportation, backflips, smoke bombs. I'd feel a helluvalot safer that way.

I think John Cena is meant to be an average guy, but it just doesn't work.

I expect Joe Chamion to be the name of the next ROH guy who reports to FCW

Lloyd Boner will fill that role nicely
Big Dust was the first guy that I thought of though.

Also wasn't that sorta of Mick Foley's gimmick too? Well that and being a batshit insane masochist.

Sgt. Slaughter is like an average joe compared to Ultimate Warrior who he won against.

The Sandman could work for this. If you like your "average man" to be a raging drunk.

I think John Cena is meant to be an average guy, but it just doesn't work. Yeah, I agree. The problem is they never book him to look weak or overmatched, which they'd need to do now and again. Oh, and Tommy Dreamer works pretty well as an average guy champion, but he was never gonna get the big belt in WWE.

I think that the closest that the WWF/E had in that role was Breat Hart. He wasn't the biggest or the strongest but he was able to out-wrestle and out-smart the competition.
And now that I made that comparison, I can also see that Steve Austin kinda fits that mold as well.

Average Joe? Do you mean some guy loading some boxes off a truck at arena is suddenly grabbed by McMahon to wrestle a match because one of the wrestlers ate some bad tuna? I would like to see something like that. He wouldn't know anything about wrestling and would win matches by accident.(like tripping over something and accidentally kicking his opponent in the nads) He would also have to rush to some matches because his boss at his regular job doesn't let him get off work early.
