I like him. He's still rather good in the ring, being able to pull of some athletic stuff as well as your standard big man moves.

The only time Kane was thought of as a major star was when Paul Bearer and Taker carried him through an amazing storyline while he did nothing except keep his mouth shut and destroy shit. Kane's legacy is completely wrapped up in bad storylines and Taker carrying him in 700 different versions of the same feud.
Big Show's accomplished more and he actually has a legacy on his own.

Rey Mysterio. At least Kane has shaken things up occasionally, had heel and faces turns, had different, albeit sometimes moronic feuds. Rey has been exactly the same since 2002, having pretty much the exact same feud again and again, just with different opponents. Rey can go in the ring on a consistent level. His matches are absurdly better than Kanes.

John Cena. At least Kane changed it up with a totally random heel run every now and then.

On a somewhat Kane-related note, I don't get all the Big Show hate - as one half of Jeri-Show and Show-Miz, I think he's been awesome. Anyone who can come back from that Bossman/coffin-surfing debacle a few years back definitely has something about him. All I want from him is for him to go heel again - he's better as a rampaging lunatic.....
And as for his tag team partner, Kane....I have nothing to say about the plethora of awful angles he's been saddled with: Shane McMahon, Katie Vick, Chris Jericho's Cappucino(!) and The Undertaker not withstanding...

I think another problem Kane and Show have is that WWE features them incessantly, in particular Big Show. Despite the brand split still theoretically being in place these two guys show up on both Raw and SD constantly, which is the exact worst thing to do with two big men that need to be used as special attractions.
I recall on a Legends roundtable a discussion of what made Andre great. Everyone agreed that he had that aura because he was used sparingly, coming into a territory for a battle royale or as a special tag partner. Contrast this to Big Show, who is all over WWE TV every week, sells for opponents, and sometimes even has a belt to justify being on both shows. Look at how ridiculously overexposed Show was when he was ECW champion and was all over every show. It's a bad way to book a big man since it kills his aura.

Personally, I'd like for him to start a storyline where someone calls him out about not being a true monster anymore. He "rekindles the flame" and goes back to wearing his mask. Masked Kane hasn't had a feud with really anyone on the roster. Essentially, it would be the same matches, but with a new perspective. It would be awesome to see Kane back in a mask again, but I don't know how intimidating a slimmer masked Kane would be.

Considering how long Kane has been around it's not surprising he's a little stale. Saying that he's still fresher than most of the roster and will always be one of my favourites.

I thought his World Title run was great, simply because his promos were entertaining.

Got an idea, hear me out on this one;
Kane continues doing what he's been doing since the end of the 'Taker feud (ambling aimlessly from one week to the next) until he has a tag match with Big Show against Rhodes and DiBiase. Towards the end of the match, due to usual ref shenanigans, the former Dashing one smashes Kane in the face with a foreign object (MITB briefcase? I hope) and lays him out cold. Ted runs to the back in fear, while Cody backs of slowly grinning. Kane could then be taken off screen for a few weeks, with Show saying that he hasn't been seen or heard from.
Meanwhile Cody starts bigging himself up saying that he has killed the monster etc. and that no-one can stand in his way as he climbs to the World Title. Cue Show, pissed that his friend has been manhandled in such a way. Rhodes and Show then have a PPV match with Cody's MITB on the line, Show looks to have the match won, when Kane comes out in his mask and destroys Show. Cody gets the pin and keeps the briefcase.
Cody then uses Kane as his own personal muscle, with Kane back as the terrifying masked monster. Cody explains that he did what no-one has been able to do; get inside his head. Give some story about how he convinced Kane that he was ugly, worthless etc and you have added heel credibility for Rhodes, a refreshed Kane, and a potentially gold split somewhere up the road.

Ironically, X-Pac. Guess they were a perfect match after all.

Well they did try to do something different with them and if bombed big time. Splitting them? Eh, not really. Bubba Ray was decently popular as a face midcarder, Reverend D-Von was sort of there as a heel, but I've seen far worse. Yeah, the WWE never really got behind either of them separately enough with a legit singles push to let them really try to run with the ball. Plus, when they reformed they had that Powerman 5000 song that didn't fir them at all which sucked the life out of a lot of their person whether face or heel. I do think the absolute stalest a character had felt was 2004-era Rikishi. The mere sight of him was screaming for repackaging.

For me I would actually be happy if he retired now. Not because I think he's stale and boring but because last year he finally had a good run as World Champion. After waiting so long for him to finally get his well deserved run I'm content with him to just retire now.

Bubba Ray was decently popular as a face midcarder, Reverend D-Von was sort of there as a heel, but I've seen far worse. Imo it didn't work out because it was the wrong way round, Bubba should of been a heel and D-von a face Since in real life by all accounts Bubbas a dickhead and D-von's a really nice guy, it's one thing TNA got right. It's why CM punk is so good as a heel as well as Randy Orton (Circa 03/04), their both douchebags in real life, Just their real life personalities dialed up to 11 ![8-)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cool.png)

Kane's the generic-wheel-out wrestler that WWE can fall back on in times of crisis. God knows Smackdown would have sunk last summer without him offering a credible championship reign to Mysterio.

Yeah, I'd have to say Cena also.
At least the likes of Kane and Big Show switch from face to heel every now and then and get a few week re-surge in freshness.
Cena has been the same boring ass character consistently for going on 7 years now.
His only changes have been in the color of his t-shirts and going from jorts to camo shorts, back to jorts.
Every feud he's in is the same. He has to find a way to overcome the odds, then does so. Rinse, repeat.

I remember writing a thread asking "Just what IS it about Kane?" Because no matter how many times he's in a terrible storyline, no matter how many times he jobs - the guy is STILL over.
I will miss Kane when he goes.

Honestly, I thought Edge was pretty stale from 2008 til the end of his career. He'd get in a good promo here and there and still have decent but not exceptional matches...but the Ultimate Opportunist thing and his umpteen 2 month World Title reigns wore me down.
