They teamed up twice on PPV, Armageddon 2007 they lost against Mark Henry and Big Daddy V, and Judgment Day 2008 they lost a tag title match to Miz/Morrison
It kinda caught me off guard. Random face team put together for a PPV title match isn't rare. But twice? Was there ever a story for why they teamed up, because I can't remember that at all.
Was it just a case of them being de facto faces in ECW?

Anytime I think of the team of CM Punk & Kane, I can't help but think of the Dirt Sheet parodying them using oreos.

They work together really well, ala Backlash 2009, Whodunnit2Taker in 2010, etc.

They were a semi-regular tag team on ECW in 2007-2008, mostly because they feuded with the same people.
They even had a short lived dynamic where Punk had the MITB and Kane had the ECW title, and Punk said that he wanted to be ECW champion. Of course, everyone scoffed at the idea of MITB being used on the ECW title.

Probably since that'd have been like Cena after winning the 2008 Rumble deciding to challenge Chavo for the ECW title, when Chavo was for some reason in the damn match. Of course, then Cena probably would have actually won at Mania. Speaking of, had he won would Chavo have challenged himself?
