Bash at the beach, 1996 Hulk Hogan turns heel and forms the NWO thus launching WCW into true competition with WWE.

Wow, can't believe it's been that long. Jeez there are likely some members of this forum who weren't even alive then

The next episode of Nitro felt like the world had ended.
It was brilliantly done.

"You fans can stick it, brother!" is still one of the greatest lines uttered on wrestling television.

I hope Cena does that one day.
I was only 5 and didn't watch wrestling back then!

I remember being told about it the next day and I couldn't believe it... What 8 year old would?... Then when I saw the tape later, I was in shock that day. It was quite unforgettable.

Watched that moment at my uncle's house at 4 years old. Cried myself to sleep. Ah, the joys of being a mark ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

One of my favorite summers of watching wrestling. The whole NWO thing had me hooked. It got lame quick, but the whole build up with Scott Hall, than Nash and finally Hogan was tense and kept me in suspense the whole summer.

I was 14 then. Stunned when I learned that Hogan had turned heel.

This was the last wrestling event I watched on scrambled PPV. I remember seeing the squiggly green and blue Hulkster come out and, being a guy who solely watched WWF up until then, predicted he was the third man. I was 9. Incredible moment.

Still one of the best executed storylines I have ever seen, if not the best. That, and Sting's transformation were incredible.
15 years ago? Wow.

Great moment, too bad WCW ultimately diluted it by not having a viable endgame to the storyline.
Late 90s wrestling was an amazing time.

Well, I think I'm gonna go back and watch BATB '96 and the subsequent Nitros from that summer.
Seems like a good way to pass some of the free time I currently have.

I was in a state of shock, never thought in a million years it would happen, not to Hogan, it was unbelievable in my eyes

As a hardcore WWF mark pretty much my entire life, I wasn't watching WCW to see this happen. I wasn't even made aware of WCW's existence until the end of 1996. I remember being pretty shocked to learn that Hogan had become a heel.

I knew wrestling was a work by this point in my life...but a little part of me died when this happened. Hogan was the reason I loved wrestling. Looking back, still the greatest heel turn of all time IMO.

I remember watching this to see the 3rd man. Incredible. Couldn't believe it finally happened. Hulk Hogan turns heel. Nothing they could ever do would repeat this shocking event, ever again. No wrestler alive can make this move work again.

... and 5 years later WCW was bought by WWF. Crazy.

The next episode of Nitro felt like the world had ended. It was brilliantly done. I saved a text file of many posts about this from the old wrestling forum the day after it happened. Most people prasied Hogan and thought it was a brilliant move on his part.
