On FuelTV tonight, Chael Sonnen said that the knee hit him in the face. "The knee hit me in the face and yes, you can't hit the knee to the face, but it's the referee's call and there's no instant replay. I don't want that to change. I've done plenty of things in the ring, in the heat of the moment. The referee didn't say anything, so it's fair game. The knee landed where the knee landed, the result is the same and I don't dispute the results." Sigh as much as you want. Also from that interview about the shorts holding: "That was a new experience. I've never had that happen in practice. It was a different feeling – trying to get away when a guy is holding onto your shorts. But I don't resent him for any of that stuff … because I would do the exact same thing, had I thought of it … Good for him. He showed us something new." So, yeah, Sonnen be Sonnening. See, I like Chael when he's actually using the truth as a statement backer, but that's straight bulls***. Instant Replay has been used by the Nevada State Athletic Commission since Aug. 12th 2009. Hell, it's what they used to pin the only loss on Jon Jones' resume with those 12-6 elbows. So if it was ilegal it would have been called and Chael would have won the fight. His act is old now, so go away for a bit Chael, step out of the limelight for a bit, and come back when you're ready to try and get a third crack at The Spider. Or don't come back at all. His act was old when he choked in their first match. Then again I do enjoy watching Silva beat the crap out of this "talker," so yeah, I guess I'm conflicted.

Y'know what? I don't know if I want to see Sonnen get a third title shot. Let's get some fresh blood going for it.

I don't want Sonnen anywhere near another title shot for at least a year or fifty.
The winner ofthe Bisping/Stann fight would be something new. If Bisping wins, let Silva destroy him in the UK. If Stann wins, hype up his military history for a big PPV based in the US...not that the UFC would ever hype Stann's military history...

You know.... I saw Sonnen do commentary for the Fuel event last week and found him to be awfully good and knowledgeable. Now, he is back to being Chael.... I've seen replays of the knee MANY times... in super slow-mo. The knee hit his chest. Now, if you want to say Silva's thigh hit him in the face/head.... ok, I can see that happening. The knee did not hit his face.

Chael Sonnen, the promoter, shouldn't be confused with Chael Sonnen, the person. All that talk was to hype up the fight. He definitely is very much influenced by professional wrestling.
He's definitely got a career in broadcasting waiting for him once he decides to hang up the gloves, but I figure he's gonna move up to 205 and work there for a little bit. It'll be better for him to not have to cut as much weight. He looked terrible at the weigh-ins after his last two weight cuts.

It has been announced that Andrei Arlovski will be making his debut for OneFC against Soa Palelei (for those don't remember he had that god awful fight against Eddie Sanchez at UFC 79)

Knockout of the Day comes to you from Veronica Rothenhausler, who scored her second straight five-second knockout in the amateur leagues.

Again, slightly off topic, but I LOVE accidentally creating highlight reel moments in UFC Undisputed 3. Was playing as Vitor Belfort against Nate Marquardt, and right at the end of round one, managed to slip past a superman punch right on the jaw with a left hook, knocking him down for the TKO. And every part of me just thought....that would have looked SO badass in real life.

Tim Sylvia has signed with Strikeforce and is rumored to be fighting Daniel Cormier around the end of the september.

Wasn't Strikeforce talking about shutting the heavyweight division down after the winner of the grand prix had his bonus fight? Because signing heavyweights and sticking to that plan doesn't sound very smart.

Well my guess is that they will shut the down HW division in SF and Sylvia will just be simply kicked to the curb if he loses (which most likely he will).

Tim Sylvia... seriously? Come on Dana, you could have found anyone better to fight Cormier than Tim Sylvia. The image of the two might be hilarious, but if Tim couldn't keep the fight on the feet against a 42 year old Randy Couture, what makes anyone think he's got a shot against a two time Olympian whose in the prime of his career and should probably have a UFC deal?

If he was active, I would have mentioned Alistair Overeem as a fitting opponent for Cormier but since he's not available, who's the best match for Cormier to have in Strikeforce?

See, that's the hard part, the best prospects to match against Cormier are all under contract with Bellator, and unless Dana gets a UFC guy to SF to take a fight against Cormier or does it the other way around Sylvia is shockingly the biggest name out there that can draw a buyrate. Personally speaking I'd enjoy seeing a Cole Konrad/Daniel Cormier fight, but as long as Cole is Bellator HW champ, it's not going to happen. It would test Cormier against a a bigger guy who has a wrestler base with a damn good pedigree and decent submissions, but lacks striking, which is where I think Cormier could win the fight.
