And I mean Del Wilkes, not Tom Brandi. Weirdly enough, the dude just kind of popped into my head. For some reason, as a kid, I loved this gimmick intensely. something about the guy just resonated with me, to the point where I even think there's a mask kicking around my old house somewhere. What did the FAN at large think of this, in my opinion, underrated performer?

Loved him as a kid and rooted for him even though my mom always sat in the heel section of the Sportatorium. Not a fan of his WWE run though.

He's my 8,765th favorite wrestler. Right there between Evad Sullivan and Gypsy Joe...

He seemed like a guy who would've been something, except he hit the roids WAY too hard. He had very little flexibility/agility. His muscles got way too big for his body to support. As such, he was merely OK.

A mush mouthed, clumsy, awkward cretin who used the easiest gimmick in the world to get over and it only worked barely.

I'll never forget right before his main event with Bret, they had the video segment where they showed his family and how him winning the title would've been so huge for him and his wife and kids, and they showed the family eating breakfast, with him still wearing the mask. It was one of the very first times I was watching wrestling as a younger...I'd say about 8 or 9 year old kid and thought "Okay wait...no...no no no no no".
It was at a time when all I ever watched was the review shows, since we didn't have cable or satellite at our house but my grandparents did, so I watched those when we went there on Saturdays (both parents worked, so we switched off every other week). The reason I bring this up is I also remember hearing AFTER the PPV that The Patriot tapped out to the Sharpshooter and thinking "Seriously?! How long has it been since someone tapped out to that?!?!?!?", since every match Bret had been in for some time involved interference or someone not tapping out to it and getting to the ropes or breaking out of it.

He did his job decently enough. He was a short term feud for Bret, and did okay.
Kind of odd, though, to think of his theme music going on to grace a much better WWE run for someone else....

In Your House Ground Zero, have it on tape they also showed some clips of him in Japan, still it was terrible wasnt there a Bulldog and Vader run in

I thought he was ok, even though his gimmick was somewhat hokey.

He is on my list somewhere but he is nowhere near as good as the Trooper I liked the Trooper, that gimmick fit him better as a cop with a Southern drawl than an American hero.

Read my comment again-I don't think you understood it. The whole point I was getting at was that he would've been far better if he didn't have about 40 lbs of roid weight.
