All I ever hear about Missy Hyatt is how she was the original/quintessential ring rat. While she is pretty open about all her sexual activity with professional wrestlers, I think she gets a seriously bad rap.
Missy really did pave the way for a lot of women in wrestling. Vince McMahon clearly held her in high regard in the 80s as she was briefly considered for Miss Elizabeth's role, and was hired to replace Roddy Piper as the host of an in-ring talk show segment. Now we know how both of those worked out for her, but clearly she was on Vince's radar back then.
And why shouldn't see have been? She cut her teeth in World Class and the UWF where she worked with a literal who's who of wrestling history. The Freebirds, Eddie Gilbert, Jake Roberts, Road Warriors, The Steiners, etc.
After her WWE misstep, she had a decent run in WCW too. Her commentary was decent, she had a fun feud with Paul Heyman, and she was great in her roles managing The Steiners and The Nasty Boys.
Jim Ross has a lot of respect for her, she put in tons of work on the road driving with the boys, getting ribbed old-school style, traveled through several promotions during the "glory days", and never got the break many felt she would inevitably get. So why is she such a laughing stock now? It's such a shame that her career is such an afterthought now and is swept under the rug of wrestling history. I see Elizabeth, Sunny, Sable, Chyna, Trish and Lita getting praised all the time, yet Missy is consistently ignored.
I'm curious as to what other's opinions are regarding this.

I've just never been a fan. I've seen a decent amount of her work, and aside from a horrible bit of commentary on a Terry Gordy comp I used to have, I've never skipped over it when it came along. I've just never been very impressed by her.

I've just never been very impressed by her. me either. The one thing that Missy had going for her back in 80's and 90's were her looks. Sadly there all gone now due to alcohol abuse, smoking, tanning beds, botched plastic surgery and oh yeah banging god knows how many wrestlers over the years. I'm certain all of those things took there toll on her.

I think it is pretty unfair that she's often mocked for being promiscuous when many other male wrestlers have similar reputations and don't get flack over it.

In terms of presentation of female sexuality in the form, it simply cannot be undermined.

I'd say she was to the mid 80's what Sunny was to the mid 90's. Just not as hot or as good on the mic as Tammy Sytch was.

Flat on her back with her feet in the air?
Seriously(if you can be serious about Missy), I was very much a fan back in the 80's, particularly during her Memphis run. She was the quintessential whining bitch who used use her "Gucci" purse as a weapon to help her guys cheat. She drew enormous heat in that role. Jerry Jarrett loved to use her in Memphis. She went on play basically the same character in every promotion she worked, and did it very well.
I can't agree-Missy at her peak was as hot as they got in the 1980s, and her promo skills were at least comparable to Sunny.
Missy's problem in her later years has been her own behavior. She has become a parody of herself, willing to do or say anything for a buck. Take away the porno and all the "kiss-and-tell" and her legacy would be much more highly regarded.

The same can be said for Sunny.

I think it is pretty unfair that she's often mocked for being promiscuous when many other male wrestlers have similar reputations and don't get flack over it. She basically won the respect of the guys she worked with and adopted their lifestyles, including the drugs, sexuality, partying and hard work. Yet she's a women so she gets raked over the coals for it...and for the most part she seems like a pleasant, easy-going person in her interviews. It's just easier to call a woman a whore or a ringrat and forget about their professional accomplishments. Then again, no one calls Miss Elizabeth a ringrat. Maybe it's because Missy (gasp!) dares to be upfront, honest and cavalier about it in the same way that male wrestlers of her time are/were. She likes good-looking men and likes to have great sex. People are uptight and hold it against her.

All the personal stuff aside, I really enjoyed her character when she was with John Tatum and later with Eddie Gilbert. She may have been terrible on the mic, but she had a real charisma about her when she was playing a manager.
