Then why did he go out of his way to work the wrestlers during the Brian Pillman loose cannon angle? I've always heard that the logic was that some people in the WCW locker room had been leaking information to dirt sheets, so Bischoff figured that if he worked the boys, the dirtsheets would think the Pillman thing was legit, thus making the angle more effective. He even went so far as to let Pillman out of his contract so that he could go to ECW for a little while (where most of the fanbase fit into that smark demographic), giving the angle more legitimacy.
But this angle was in 1995/1996. Surely the IWC/smarks/dirtsheet readers were in fewer numbers than they are now. But 16 years later he's constantly bashing the internet fans, saying that they're such a small portion of the audience that their opinion doesn't really matter. It just seems odd to me.

the reason is because Eric Bischoff is a sad, deluded little man who blames his failures on everyone but himself and needs the apparent ego boost of telling off total strangers.

I wonder if part of it is less that he actually believes that, and more that he's been beating that drum for so long he doesn't think he can voice a changed opinion on it now.

It's an act, if he thought the internet was insignificant, he wouldn't mention them so much and actively try to rile them up.

Ya, I think he's trying to be a heel to the internet fans.

Bischoffs a smart guy. He knows what he is doing, and is probably just trying to rile up the internet fans while having a little fun. The only problem is that he really does sound like an ass sometimes.

I think it's more like Eric will agree with internet fans when they reinforce what he says and he'll disagree with them when they don't. He's playing it both ways and he's certainly not the only one who does so.

If Bischoff really believed they were insignificant, he wouldn't constantly try to swerve them like he has for years.
