We go to Eric Bischoff backstage sitting on a stool, with an empty one beside him.
Hello everyone, tonight is a very special night. Besides all the great matches on tonight's show, I bring my first ever, Mid-Show Eric's Explanation's. Only one segment though for time constraints, the guest speaker, so I guess I'm a glorified interviewer for tonight. My guest. . . the same as my first ever. My good buddy, Eric Young!
Eric Young walks into the shot.
Eric, tonight you face Tommy Dreamer with the Legend's Championship, just like last month. But this time, the situation is reversed. You're champ going in, and Dreamer is the one who is at a huge moment in his career. Win, or retire. I have several questions for you, first off being, how do you prepare for an opponent who has his back against the wall?
Well certainly, its tough.
I mean, he is gonna come out swinging with everything he has, from moves he uses every week, to things we haven't seen him pull since '97. I literally have to prepare for everything.
But to strictly answer your question, how to prepare for an opponent that has everything on the line, maybe I should ask Shatter for advice? Or Dreamer himself? Or how about you, Bischoff? You were definitely here for the wild ride.
Because when it comes to someone coming through at the biggest moment of their careers, you're looking at the best.
If I lost to Shatter at BFG, I wouldn't be here. I'd be long gone, wrestling night in and night out in middle school gymnasiums.
And if I lost to Dreamer last month, I wouldn't be here either. I'd be stuck with my thumb up my ass in the back as Dreamer took on Angle, or Steiner, or anyone that isn't me! And my career would be dead in the water.
So tonight, the shoe may be on the other foot, but it still feels pretty comfortable. I've dealt with every thought that has entered his head since he made the decision to put his career on the line, and I already know what he is training for, what he's praying for, what he is dreaming about, and what he is fearing.
And if he didn't realize that, or know that I plan on taking advantage of that, here's your hint, Dreamer.
When the pressure is at its highest, I do not crumble, I do not screw up. I thrive in the spotlight, I glisten in it. And you. . . I'll make sure you burn in my light.
Well, strong words to say the least. You sort of already answered this Eric, but do you feel confident heading into this match?
Well I may of lost to Anderson on this last impact, good luck to him in the main event by the way, but yeah, I feel really damn confident.
Don't confuse this with ignorance, I know Tommy is great. I know Dreamer is a legend in this business. And I know he'll do whatever it takes for victory. BUT SO WILL I.
This is the biggest moment of my career, and week in, week out, I feel my star rising here. Each week that I prove myself to these fans with a victory, I gain just a bit more confidence. And a bit more confidence, makes me more and more dangerous on this mic. And the more I talk on this mic, the more I scare my opponent shitless, making a victory so much easier. Its the deadliest combination in this industry, and its a ride I can last on forever. Its my ball to run with. . . but one slip up, one mistake. . .
Eric pantomines a gun against his head. He pulls the trigger.
And boom.
There goes the run. There goes the title. There goes my success. And I'm not ready to give it up. Not by a long shot. Any and all competion can step up, and I am willing to knock them down.
So yes, Bischoff, I am confident, but I don't reallly have a choice. Any hint of weakness, and the critics, the doubters, and the contenders will jump at it.
But I've beat Dreamer before, and I can guarantee we both gave it our all last time. But a match like that. . . it raises your game. I'm better than I was before that, and I know he is the same way. To say this won't be interesting would be a lie, but to say that I don't believe that MY Legend's Championship stays just that would also be a lie.
Final question. Hypothetically, if you beat Dreamer...
Bischoff, we're buddies, but don't play that crap. Rephrase that immediately to "Inevitably, when you beat Dreamer".
Fair enough. Inevitably, when you beat Dreamer. . . you end his career. How does that feel?
*Smirk*
You'd think it would feel great.
This guy has just done everything within his power to piss me off.
He brings in Tazz, of all people, to make a one-off appearance, to screw me out of what most likely was my only Legend's title shot.
Then I luckily get a rematch, and end up taking down the bastard. And what does he do? Not only demand a rematch, but up the ante so that the stakes are huge. If I didn't accept this match, I look like a chump champ, and Dreamer gets the final laugh.
And if I'll be honest. . . I didn't want to accept his conditions.
Not because I'm afraid I'll lose, if it isn't clear, I'm damn confident about my victory tonight.
But for the reasons you alluded to Bischoff, tonight will be the end of a legend.
Dreamer has had a long, very successful, career. And while some disrespectful little kid would relish the opportunity to end his career, I think I've matured a bit to the point where I don't want to be the guy that end's his legacy. This guy was one of the bests. He still is. And it'll be a shame for a top dog in this industry to not be able to end his career on his own terms.
. . . BUT, don't take this softness, for weakness. I'm speaking from the heart, but I've said it several times before. If you step in the ring with me, you're my enemy. And my enemies have come in all shapes and sizes, but only one thing is consistent, losing. When you stare Eric Young in the eyes, you can kiss away any chance of victory! And guess what Dreamer. I have my sights set on you . . .
Eric once again pantomines a gun, this time pointing it at the camera.
And tonight, I pull the trigger.
Goodnight Tommy Dreamer.
So long, and farewell.
Young leaves the shot.
