The thing is, Hank Williams is relevant b/c of the MNF song. Otherwise, who the hell is that guy. He made his millions, go retire and do something.
Just go from the studio to the announcers in the game. There doesn't need to be some sort of grand intro to a game, unless its the Super Bowl. Look at FOX, 5 minutes before the game, they go to the announcers, then commercials, the usual "this is FOX Sports" montage, the football theme comes on, and that's it.
ESPN's production is always lots of noise, lots of people (their pregame show has 5 people on set, plus Shefter and Mort, plus another 4 consisting of Suzy Kolber and other people), lots of things going on. I feel like I'm watching a Michael Bay film. Just show the game.

Stephen A. Smith preaching it about Brett Favre; agree or not that was hilarious. I will say he did put Rodgers over a bit, but there was a bit of passive aggressive swiping there as well. Just watched it. While both guys are tools, Bayless looked like the bigger tool there.

Problem is, he's one of those guys that chose to talk politics over make music - and it bit him in the ass. Doesn't bother me too much, the MNF song was annoying anyhow

ESPN looking for new Monday Night Football intro after pulling Hank Williams Jr. for good. I really hate this idea that if a guy says something we don't like, he must go away forever and never be seen again. Why couldn't we have just been like "Ok, he's an idiot" and ignored it and not had to do this. That's all I'm going to say here. They didn't throw him into a black hole. The man can still have a career. For all we know, we're one year away from seeing him sing, "ARE YOU READY FOR SOME...TWO AND A HALF MEN?!! A MONDAY NIGHT PARTY! WE GOT JON AND KUTCH AND ANGUS TO GET THINGS STARTED!"

He tried, but it didn't work. I don't know if he's done it recently, but I remember in 2003 he would team up with a different artist to do the MNF song each week. One week I remember him teaming witn Snoop Dogg. So it was "ARE YOU READY?!" followed by Snoop and his -izzle speak. It was pretty weird.

In anticipation of Monday's game against the Detroit Lions, Jay Cutler's MCL has sprained itself.

Not quite the case as he still plays concerts and such; and as you said, you don't listen to country and thus were unaware the dude was HUGE in the seventies and eighties, and that's why he became iconic and his " All My Rowdy Friends Are Comin Over Tonight" was coopted to the MNF theme in first place. Also, he's a country legacy as Hank Williams Sr. is one of the true pioneers but yeah he's definitely not as big as his heyday. And as I said, they've been using that theme for almost thirty years, even without the uproar, might as well update it.
Now why anyone would really ask his opinion about political matters? That I don't know.

Okay, so I feel like I have to flip a coin for this. Who should I start this week?
- Matt Schaub (vs. Raiders): no Andre Johnson, healthy Arian Foster, Oakland bad against run. - Mark Sanchez (at Patriots): Pats suck against pass, but did you see that Jets/Ravens game?!

According to the Miami Herald, the real reason free agent David Garrard didn't sign with the Dolphins last week is because "he simply didn't feel like playing right now."

The Boston Globe confirms that Danny Woodhead (doubtful, ankle) is "unlikely to play Sunday," after missing a third straight practice Friday.

Oh my goodness. Go to NFL.com and click on the Raiders' page. It says Al Davis passed away this morning.

It's odd, the Oakland Raiders' website is the only site confirming that Davis has passed away, and even then, it's only that one image before entering Raiders.com. At this point, I think it could be a hoax, that someone hacked into the team's official website and slapped that image on. There needs to be more concrete confirmation before I believe this to be true.

Dang, Al Davis is one of those people I never thought would pass away. Hell, I was joking with my dad this week about how Al Davis is a robot and he'll never die. Condolences to his family, and Raider fans as well.
