R.I.P. to Al Davis.
Never thought I'd type that. Al Davis was such a mythical figure that death would never be able to claim. His legacy is a truly unique one. The Black Hole is going to be surreal the next Raiders home game.

RIP to the man. He was innovative and a winner in his heyday.
That said, it'll be interesting to see if the Raider organization can now grow and improve, as I really feel like a lot of Davis's decisions in the last fifteen years or so were holding them back.
That said though, again RIP to the person.

Condolences to his family. Congratulations to Raiders fans who might actually get to see their team really improve. Don't mean to sound crass as back in his heyday he was one of the best owners in the NFL. But he needed to know when to step back and let less senile minds make the decisions.
As far as Hank Williams Jr. goes, that song sucked anyway. Though hearing him sing it in (really bad) Spanish was hilarious. But Godwin's Law applies to celebrities too.

RIP Al Davis
he was a true rebel and thorn in the NFL's side for many years
can we change the name of the thread to RIP Al Davis or something along those lines in light of this?

RIP Al Davis.
Also, calling it now - the Raiders win the West and maybe a playoff game.

Never a Raiders fan, but all the respect in the world for a man who followed his own vision and did everything his way. I can say there never will be another owner like him.

I've always hated the Raiders, and while Al Davis didn't always make the best decisions late in his career, there was no denying that he was a man that truly loved his team, and that's something that I will always respect him for.

Not a fan of the Raiders but I can still see Al shouting from wherever he may be "Just win baby"....
RIP to one of the more outspoken owners in NFL history...

I'm not a Raiders fan in the slightest, but you have to respect the man and what he did for the NFL as a whole. He may not have always made the smartest decisions, but his legacy stretches far beyond these past few years. Suddenly I don't feel so bad about the Raiders beating the Broncos these past few times, Al got to go out with a couple of big Ws against his most hated rival, can't get too angry at that.
From a Bronco fan, RIP Mr. Davis, you gave my team hell but I respect what you did for the NFL.

RIP Al. I know I've made a joke about his immortality here and there, even made fun of his stupid decisions these last few years, but I still respect his legacy.

As a Raiders fan myself, it's hard to even grasp his effect on the sport. It really is. He wasn't just a pioneer, he was a revolutionary. He's gone now, and while I think it's in the best interest of the Raiders organization, and their success, it really is a tragic, tragic loss, and the world of football took a huge hit today. It really did. Without him, football would NOT be what it is today.

RIP Al Davis
I may have never liked the guy and always felt like he was holding Oakland back with his senile decisions, I never wish death on anyone and it is sad to see when someone dies.

Unrelated to Al Davis, but Michael Oher just made me laugh for a terrible reason. He doesn't know who Steve Jobs is, but is using an iPhone. Oh it's a crazy world.

RIP Al Davis
I understand that he loved the team, but over the past few years, he made some really bad decisions.

Believe it or not, it's possible to not know who he was. If you didn't follow Tech News before this week, it would be fairly easy to never know who he was.
