So I just found out about the free PSN stuff in the newest Gameinformer. I was kind of scared that I had waited too long, but nope. I'm currently downloading Infamous and Dead Nation. Not too terribly excited about either game, but my PS3 library is pitiful at the moment. I literally ONLY have Little Big Planet. But between the two free PS3 titles, and all the free titles on the Playstation Plus, I'll have tons of new stuff to play. I'm not sure that Plus is worth the monthly subscription or anything, but it's awesome when it's free. I'm glad Sony is actually doing something for the players that had to suffer through the lack of PSN for two months. Thankfully it wasn't much of an issue for me because it just meant I couldn't play LBP online...no big problem. You have to keep paying monthly or whatever rate you sign up for to keep on playing your "free" games. That is the main thing I don't like about it. Ugh. That really sucks. Do you mean just the free games in the Playstation Plus store, or the two "make up" games also? BTW These mandatory updates are driving me freaking insane. When we first hooked up our brand new PS3 to the TV back in April, the very first thing I had to do was download and install an update. Which took at least 30 minutes, I'm thinking longer though. Then I tried to play Little Big Planet, and before I could play I had to download and install ANOTHER update. This one took just as long as the first one. Then after the PSN came back up, I had to download and install another update that took forever. This was just what, 2 weeks ago? So today I download and install Dead Nation (haven't gotten around to Infamous yet), and after waiting for hours for the game to download I'm thinking I get to try it out. WRONG. I had to download and install ANOTHER FREAKING UPDATE. The most annoying part is that I'm almost certain that I'll be prompted to download another update after I download and install Infamous. Maybe I can skip some of the updates, I really don't know because I usually just get pissed off, hit the button, and leave the room for an hour.

The make up games are yours to keep.
Oh, and get used to downloading updates and installation. You'll be doing it for every game. Every time you pop in the game, you have to install the data onto your PS3. Sure, it takes awhile, but it saves loading issues and etc., it's exactly like a normal Blu-Ray.
Same goes for updates. Now if you're talking about system updates, there's no stopping that. If you want your system to not get hacked into all the freakin' time, then it's there for a reason. Same goes for the games. Most of those updates are usually for the fact that they added in DLC, some are to fix the game.
You want to play the PS3, then you need to suck it up.

I'm used to just popping in a new game and playing it. The day that I come home with LA Noire or something that I'm just dying to play, and have to wait half an hour for it to install, is the day that I'll likely hang myself out of anticipation.

Sony will be apparently doing a total of 3 "double packs" next month to help get gamers ready for some of their bigger first party releases in the fall. And they are:
- Resistance: Fall of Man & Resistance 2 - Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction & Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time - Uncharted: Drake's Fortune & Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Rumor is all three will drop July 22nd. They all contain extra content beyond just the games, of course. Nothing much, just things like dynamic themes, multiplayer skins, and avatars related to the upcoming releases in those three respective series.

Are any of you guys unable to open Netflix? For two days now I've been getting a "Cannot connect to Netflix" message. Even tried deleting it and reinstalling...but now I can't even get it back.

It's been kinda inconsistent for me the past week or so, but usually after opening/closing it a couple times, or just coming back like an hour or two later usually does it, so I don't know what's going on in your case.

FEAR 3 is the bomb.
Also, the Playstation welcome back package, if you have everything already, they do nothing for you.

still need to download my 2nd game. Infamous so far is awesome, but already have LBP. Wipeout and that that Zombie game look like games I'd maybe play once or twice, which I guess isn't the worst thing, considering they're free.

I'm still stuck in PS2land. It feels like I'm retrogaming every time I turn it on.

I will say that for most of the games if you wanna hold off on the updates, many of them let you hit circle when the update screen comes up and lets you play. The catch being it kicks you off PSN, so if it's a game that has any online interaction that you use you're locked out until you update. Some games add a lot of things at a time. They've added A LOT of stuff to Gran Turismo 5 for example since it released. Custom soundtrack expanded to allow menu music, online car dealership, online events that give pretty good sums of money (some requiring certain models of cars), glitch and exploit fixes, trade limits (this sounds fun but A LOT of people online were getting rare prize cars at low levels), racer outfits...man oh man.

My PS3 has just Yellow Lighted on me I've said it before, but here is a great place to send YLOD'ed PS3s to get fixed: www.gophermods.comCan't recommend them enough. The problem with getting a yellow light repaired is that its likely to happen to you again in a very short period of time (Usually 90-180 days). Its something that isn't easily fixed long term. I know this because a guy I work with does computer repairs and he told me he would fix my 60 GB PS3 for 30 bucks (Price of soldering and a little for his troubles) but that it would like happen again as the soldering will likely fall off again in 3-6 months; and something like 60% of all repaired yellow lights crap out within 6 months and 80% within a year. I would try to sell it for parts you could get like 70-90$ for a broken fat model. When my 60 GB crapped out on me I had him fix it for the 30 bucks. And he was right 5 months later it did it again. So what happened was I sold my 60 GB PS3 for parts (Got 85$ for it). Turned around and bought an old 80GB non-BC for 150 from a friend who takes great care of his stuff that just didn't want it anymore. So it ended up costing me only 65$ for a new fat PS3. My advice would be for you to sell your PS3 for parts get the 70-90 most places (You could just Google websites or Craigslist them) give you. Then buy a new one or a used one. Its not worth the hassle to try to repair one.
