It's already well-known that Scrappy-Doo is the John Cena of the Scooby-Doo franchise (if Scooby-Doo is Hulk Hogan, then Scrappy might as well be Cena), to the point where even those who never watched (or hated) the show will take a few digs at him. The anti-Scrappy Fan Dumb ( TM of TVTropes) take this to ridiculous levels, with sayings of "He's annoying!", "Scrappy raped my childhood!", "He killed the show!", etc. What's sad about it is that Warner Bros. took the Scrappy-phobia to heart and even began taking shots at him, culminating in Scrappy's heel turn in the 2002 live-action film, and later productions began mocking him, in an episode of Scooby-Doo: Mysteries, Incorporated. {Spoiler} Here are some articles that talk about Scrappy:

I thought Scrappy's heel turn was a cool twist anyway. Not because I'm a Scrappy hater, just that they had the balls to do it.

Scrappy is way more the Rey Mysterio than he is the John Cena. How can this even be debated?

Scrappy-Doo is okay in the later years. For all the flack Scrappy gets, he is still better than Corporal Capeman and Bubba Duck.

Not that "Scooby Doo" was any great shakes, but Scrappy made the show worse, just like Orko, Snarf, Twiki, Bandit, Godzooky, and all the other characters whose sole purpose was to appeal to the younger end of an already youthful demographic. Even as I kid I knew Scrappy was there to pander to me, despite being an annoying spotlight stealer. He sucked.

Scrappy is way more the Rey Mysterio than he is the John Cena. How can this even be debated? Cena and Scrappy-Doo have a split fanbase: kids liked them, and the older fans hated them. Either way, they were huge draws at the time. A little known fact: if they hated Scrappy-Doo, then how come it's not reflected in the Nielsens at the time? Not that "Scooby Doo" was any great shakes, but Scrappy made the show worse, just like Orko, Snarf, Twiki, Bandit, Godzooky, and all the other characters whose sole purpose was to appeal to the younger end of an already youthful demographic. Even as I kid I knew Scrappy was there to pander to me, despite being an annoying spotlight stealer. He sucked. That's your opinion. And Scrappy was just part of a trend (giving established cartoon stars young nephews) that already started with Huey, Dewey, and Louie years ago.

Scrappy doesn't nearly annoy me as much as episodes which are just Shaggy and Scooby. Either have the whole gang, Vincent Price or don't bother.

There needed to be more Scooby-Dumb. But seriously though, Scrappy never bothered me.

Made FAR worse because wasn't the Core cast gone by that point? I mean it was Shaggy, Scooby, Scrappy, Flim-Flam and Daphne right? I mean The Arrival of Scrappy also meant that Velma and Fred were usually absent. There's no "grounding" to the series anymore.

It is a shame 13 ghosts got cancelled, it had all the elements of one of the better Scooby shows (Flim-Flam aside), and never got a proper ending.

By the time The Scooby-Doo Show was shown, it was apparent that Scooby (obviously) and Shaggy were the leading stars of the show, with Fred, Daphne, and Velma playing second fiddle to them. Also, the Scooby-Doo formula was getting long in the tooth thanks to the glut of Scooby clones (Jabberjaw, Speed Buggy; no offense to the fans of the show, just stating the facts). I can also describe Scrappy-phobia in two words: nostalgia goggles.

The only thing about Scrappy that I disliked really was that his origin story is that he was placed in a cardboard box and shipped via train to his 'loving uncle'. Talk about animal cruelty.
FYI, Scrappy turned heel on Cartoon Network loooooong before the movie was made. I'll try to search the interwebs for samples, but there were a few humorous commercials that took digs at Scrappy, as well as some choice Harvey Birdman: AaL depictions of the Scrapped One.

There's one of the "The Best Place for Cartoons" promo, in which Scrappy ranted on the popularity of the Cartoon Cartoons, when he's there longer than them.

For Scrappy to be Cena he'd have to be mega over then gotten sick of to be Cena.
