I think a lot of times, movie producers aren't necessarily out to make "remakes" but there are only so many stories to tell, so any script that has vague similiarties to a previously existing fanchise will get that title slapped on them.
Like the Dawn of the Dead remake. Okay its zombies in a mall, but other than that there were a lot of differences in the plot, characters, etc, etc - general tone of the movie.
Even the director said that he wanted the original title of the film to be "Dead-ish" (a reference to a line in the film) but they went with "Dawn of the Dead" to capitalize on the dead franchise's promotional potential

I think it's more a manifestation of "damn, really? Another remake?" and the lamentation of no originality. I love Paccino, he's one of my all time favorite actors, but I can't stand the bizarre obsession with the first 3/4 of the movie. Had a room mate in college who LOVED the movie because "that's how I want to live my life. Money, fame, power" but he failed to understand the overall theme of "nothing lasts forever". So I suppose I have two reasons to not want to see this. It's another rehash, which is all Hollywood does now, and it'll lead to more clueless jackbags who will parrot the lines and misunderstand the point. Exactly this. I mean, these people *did* see the ending, right? No, my college roommate loved it, quoted it, but the only part of the ending he knew was "say hello to my little friend". He thought Montana "won".

Pssh, I want to be just like Tony too, start with nothing and then get the f***ing world chico and everything in it. Everyone dies in the end, might as well have a lot of money, women and power before you do.
I honestly don't care what I'm supposed to "understand" or "get", I get whatever the Hell I want out of movies, ha.

Too soon. They should wait at least 50 years or something. But then all douchebag producers making this one will be dead and won't get the money. lol

Well, I can't say I think this is necessary, but I'll wait and see until more details emerge. The important thing to be is if this movie will be different enough; the other two Scarface movies worked because they took a universal basic story of ambition and greed, and applied them to the most relevant crime problems going on at the time (Italian gansters and bootlegging in the 30's, Cuban cocaine lords in the 80's). If this new movie can introduce a similarly different, yet relevant, setting, I might give it a chance. So teenage nerds and online piracy?

If Mark Zuckerberg were an immigrant with a facial deformity - the Social Network might have beaten them to the punch.

I like when people get upset at remakes as if someone is forcing them to watch them at gunpoint or something. It's like "Booooooooooooooooooo! They're ruining movies I liked!!!!!". Then don't watch it genius. The thing is that they aren't. Nothing's being ruined. Nothings changed. JAWS could have a sequel every six months since 1975 and the original is still totally the same, and completely unaffected by the sequels...

If they're gonna update it like the first remake did where they set it somewhere else and make it relevant to current times, maybe it will be set in the American Southwest and have to do with Mexican cartels? Could be interesting.

The 30s movie was great.
The 80s version was one of the most horrendously overrated movies of all time.
I don't like where this is going.

Word! Never seen the other two so, whatever. Every dollar spent on a remake is a dollar not spent on something more original. Every dollar not spent on a remake would probably go to another derivative summer popcorn flick. They're not going to pull money out of an expected blockbuster to put it into an "original" unknown property. LIke it or not, the blockbusters are what fund the original projects that studios do. When a studio takes a chance, it's because they can afford to since they made $500 million on a sequel or remake. The blockbusters sustain the industry, that's just how the system works. The original projects are taken as gambles after they have their certain money. If you want to see original movies from the major studios, then you have to hope that the blockbusters are successful. Because if they aren't, the first thing pulled are the projects they're not sure of.

The Pacino one wasn't that good to be honest. Plus, as was mentioned, it too was a remake, eh.
