Well, they took the most over guy in ECW and let him come to the WWF with the exact same character and wrestling the exact same style. There's no way people were going to hate him. Back in 2001, RVD was just plain cool.

This thread is reminding me of how dumb it was to take the Hardcore Title from him. They never seemed willing to push him to the main-event scene, and he seemed perfectly content doing the Hardcore Title matches. He always theorized that they didn't like that he was turning the Hardcore Title into an actual championship with real wrestling matches rather than a gimmick for hitting people with weapons.
