All from Twitter: Bruton Smith announced he will be making changes to Bristol before the coming night race.
Fox is looking into turning Speed into a a general sports channel to compete with ESPN and turning Fuel into an all motorsports channel.

YES! YES! YES! YES! Randy, I can't thank you enough. With that being said, I want to see Richmond and Phoenix back on the schedule(nothing's as exciting as short track open wheel racing) and Elkhart Lake again for nostalgic CART purposes.

What about dump Fuel altogether and make a general Fox Sports Network instead of regional subsidiaries? I think what it comes down to is it'll simply be easier and cheaper to re-brand Speed. Speed is already in millions of homes and on basic tiers so it would just be easier to flip it rather than try and get a new channel picked up and carried by all the carries needed. Don't think they can drop the regionals because of contracts with different sports teams.

There was nothing wrong with the Spring race. If People want to see a wreckfest, they should go to the demolition derby.

Bristol is about rubbing and trading paint, not going three wide for 500 laps. I am not saying I want them upside down and two cars on the lead lap but I do want them fighting for position, getting people lose and nudging them out of the way. And with more than half the stands empty for the last 4 races, Bruton had to make a change.

It's not so much the demolition derby as much as you had to fight to get your spots. A one-groove 36-degree Coliseum like structure that forced men to scratch and claw for everything they earned. The variable-bank surface done away with what made Bristol famous. It's racey yes, but it's bad when you realize that it doesn't feel like a short track anymore with the multiple grooves.

If they keep the existing 16 events, plus the confirmed Houston race, and added some combination of Pocono, Richmond, Phoenix, Portland, and Road America for 2013, that would be awesome. What would be really nice is to get Pocono on the schedule and adopt Fontana as the third part of a 500-mile Triple Crown with Indianapolis, though I can't see that happening ever. In terms of the rumored locations, I'd like to see a Chicago street race due to living fairly close to Chicago.

But if it did, Holy Shit that would be huge. Chicagoland is a perfectly good oval but they just can't do pack racing anymore. Also Kentucky and Surfers Paradise (Gold Coast Australia) are rumored to be interested as well.

Yeah, I doubt a Chicago street race would ever happen, but it would be pretty neat, especially near the coast of Lake Michigan. I'm not a big fan of pack racing to begin with so the loss of pack racing ovals doesn't really bother me, but they should be replaced with better ovals. Would love to see tracks like Richmond and New Hampshire back, and Kentucky as well if it became possible to make a pass for the lead. I liked Carpenter winning last year but it was ridiculous how he and Franchitti were side-by-side the entire last bit of the race. Surfer's Paradise would be great to see return.

Drag racing and the racing world in general lost another pioneer this morning, as Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins passed away. Godspeed, Grumpy.

Castroneves is on the pole for the Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama. Hinchcliffe earns his first career front-row start, Conway's 4th place starting spot is Foyt's best on a road/street course since 2007, and Hildebrand's 5th is Panther Racing's best on a road/street course since 2005. Six different teams in the top-six. Four Chevrolets in the top-five, six in the top-ten. Wonder when this starts looking bad for Honda, sponsoring events where Chevy seems to dominate.
Top ten: 1 - Castroneves 2 - Hinchcliffe 3 - Dixon 4 - Conway 5 - Hildebrand 6 - Kanaan 7 - Viso 8 - Rahal 9 - Power 10 - Pagenaud
