I kind of liked it actually. I've been enjoying the caution free races as it places a premium on having a mistake-free race, without the yellows to bunch the field. So to see that for the majority of the race was nice, as various championship contenders went down trying to get to Power. And then all hell broke loose for a time, with a couple of cautions and some pit strategy messing up the field. The only disappointment in the race for me was that Bourdais went out early. It would have been a lot of fun to see Briscoe vs. Power vs. Franchitti vs. Bourdais at the end.
Some other things:
The top five in the championship are still in the running for the championship, barring any driver failing to start a race or not participating. In all likelihood it's still between the top four though. Top five:
1 - Will Power / Team Penske #12, 422 pts 2 - Ryan Hunter-Reay / Andretti Autosport #28, 386 pts 3 - Helio Castroneves / Team Penske #3, 381 pts 4 - Scott Dixon / Target Chip Ganassi #9, 368 pts 5 - Simon Pagenaud / Schmidt/Hamilton Motorsports #77, 337 pts
Power clinched the Mario Andretti Road Course Championship for the third consecutive year. The top-five were the same as the overall championship, though the order was Power, Castroneves, Dixon, Hunter-Reay, Pagenaud.

Cleveland was one of the most impressive races consistently. My last serious memory of Cleveland was in '07 when Graham Rahal was chasing down Paul Tracy.
Four more laps, and he'd have had him...

I liked both Edmonton and Mid-Ohio for much of the same reasons you did: clean, aggressive driving with some pretty balsy overtakes. I just felt like outside of the Bourdais/Newgarden crash and the on track mishaps of Castroneves, Dixon and Hunter-Reay, nothing much happened.

That would be your last serious memory of the Cleveland Grand Prix, since '07 was the last time it was run. I can't believe it's already that long ago.

www.indycar.com/en/News/2012/08-August/8-28-Junqueira-to-fill-in-at-BaltimoreJunqueira in for Newgarden in Baltimore after Newgarden broke a finger at Sonoma. Power can clinch the championship if he wins Baltimore and at least starts Fontana. Just that would add 60 points to his total, giving him 482. He would also have 4 wins, 2 2nds, 1 3rd, and 1 4th. The most points Hunter-Reay could get would then also be 482 (43 for 2nd and bonus points at Baltimore, 53 for win and bonus points at Fontana). However, he would then have 4 wins, 2 2nds, 1 3rd, and 0 4ths. The tie would be broken on number of 4ths. Pagenaud has the worst chances of winning the championship, but he still could if he wins both remaining races and gets all bonus points. This would give him 443 points. Power would have to finish 25th or worse in both remaining races = 442 points Hunter-Reay would have to average no more than 28 points in both races = 442 points Castroneves would have to average no more than 31 points in both races = 443 points* Dixon would have to average no more than 37 points in both races = 442 points *Castroneves is the only driver where Pagenaud would win a tiebreaker. Ways to get to 31 points average (62 total): 2nd place and 9th place (40 + 22) 4th place and 5th place (32 + 30) If Castroneves finishes 2nd and 9th, and ties Pagenaud at 443, they would have an equal number of wins and 2nds, but Pagenaud would have two 3rd-place finishes to Castroneves' one. If Castroneves finishes 4th and 5th and ties Pagenaud, Pagenaud would have one 2nd-place finish to Castroneves' zero. Also I have too much time on my hands.

That's nothing... I'm currently converting previous F1 championship standings to the current points format to see if that changes the results significantly. O.o

I usually just redo the points for the NHRA season and see who would win the Championships if we didn't have this Countdown to the Championship bullcrap.

Any big changes yet? Damon Hill would have been 1994 World Champion instead of Michael Schumacher. It was a 1 point win to Schumacher under the system used at the time... under the current system Hill wins it by 16. {Spoiler} I feel like this is going to affect some of the more excessively close championship battles.

I like things like this. I think there was some website that did the same thing, except with NASCAR and who would be champion without the Chase. ====== Will Power is the polesitter for Baltimore and has considerable distance between himself and the main championship contenders, with Hunter-Reay 13th and Castroneves 16th. Dixon is 3rd, but his championship possibility is low. Pagenaud should be out of it with Power taking the bonus point for the pole. He would have needed every possible point he could earn. Not sure who has a grid penalty this weekend, but the top-ten in qualifying is a wide assortment: Power, Conway, Dixon, Bourdais, Franchitti, Hinchcliffe, Kimball, Kanaan, Wilson, Junqueira. A win will secure the championship for Power.

Belgium F1 is on now, and let's just say that this could be the most important race of the championship so far given the events at the first corner.

Jenson Button wins the Belgian GP in style. Alonso, after his elimination at the start of the race, only 24 points clear of Vettel.

Romain Grosjean has been banned from the Italian Grand Prix next weekend for causing the first corner crash that took out four drivers and very nearly killed Fernando Alonso. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/19458954

The crash in question. Sorry about the foreign commentary, but this was the best clip I could find on short notice.
