Maybe this isn't the right place to post this sort of thing, but at this point, I need to get this off of my mind.
Well into first semester of my freshman year and...I feel like I'm going f***ing crazy. I've been facing immense amounts of stress that come from my inability to balance out my health and school work, and the latter is causing me severe frustration.
I can't get a good night's rest and that's another significant issue for me. Sure, I mean the occasional sleepless night is rather common, but it occurs on a daily basis for me.
As a result of my deteriorating health, I can't find the motivation to do anything. Sitting in my dorm is all that is appealing right now, and I'm missing home. At home, I was involved in Taekwondo, I meditated, and I rode my bike, and the thought of not being able to do that any longer due to school obligations eats at me every single day. In other words, I'm going insane. The prospect of four more years of this is driving me mad as well.
I've contemplated taking up smoking as a way to cope, but that goes against every aspect of myself and I can't bring myself to buy a pack of cigs. I sound like a psycho right now.
It's not supposed to be like this; it just isn't. It CAN'T be like this. Maybe college isn't for me? Am I not meant to handle this amount of stress? It's all very confusing and I'm spinning out of control. Obviously I'm well-aware that there are others in my situation.

Why can't you ride your bike or mediate at college?
Also - freshman year is supposed to be a cake walk. How many classes are you taking?

By no means is my workload excessive; I just cannot balance everything. Doesn't help being undeclared, either. I mean, I guess. I was undeclared for like 2 1/2 years before I picked a major/minor. College isn't supposed to be that stressful man. Its supposed to be a fun time. These 4--5 years won't dictate the rest of your life. A lot of people don't even work in the field they majored in so...yeah. I know this is like the worst thing to say - but it just sounds like you're taking everything too seriously. If I could go back and do college again I'd definitely focus less on school work and more on meeting people. College is 75% networking and 25% school work - because after you graduate you learn its not WHAT you know, but WHO you know.

My first year was tough, the best suggestion I can came up with is to organize your time and come up with a schedule. Divide your studying and school work to set times over the week for each class, and give yourself time every night to unwind. It'll be much easier to stick with something when you say "for the next hour and a half, I'm doing this" then trying to fit everything in haphazardly.
Also, throughout even my heaviest course load and tightest deadlines, I found that designating one day as a non-work day was helpful. If for some reason you can't, make it a night. Just some period where you put everything away. If you think you don't have the time to do that, just consider that all the time you spend worrying about things will be put to better use when you're organized.
That is the approach I've taken when things got tough, and it's worked for me perfectly.

Has your campus got any student support services that you know of? It doesn't matter how major or minor you might think your situation is - if there's somebody there to listen, talk. I'd definitely throw it out there as an option to consider. I had a terrible start to my first year at university (stress, terrible sleep, depression) and eventually had a couple one-on-one sessions with a mental health co-ordinator on campus. It really did help in the long run when I thought that I would never get out of the crappy cycle I was in.

College isn't for everybody. I'm serious. We live in a culture where everybody is supposed to go to college, incur obscene amounts of debt and go into the workforce blind. The Pew research center did a study last year and found that almost 3/4 of college gradutes took a job that didnt require a college degree on graduation. If college isn;t your deal it's better to find out now, stop incuring debt and start working.
If college IS your deal start riding your bike, meditating, do whatever you'll eventually find some like minded people. I went to a college with 1100 total students and found people who shared my interests in almost everything
