With all the other storylines that spun out of the match, I kind of forgot that HHH actually beat Punk.
So uh...... why? Punk instantly went into the WWE title picture, which could have happened if he won, assuming they never added that "HHH is fired if he loses!" stip.
Was it just to prove he's not a doofus son in law? Is he an egomaniac who had to beat Punk just to prove he could win a fake fight?

To get Punk out so we could get David Otunga crammed into the storyline?

The entire storyline seems to lack a point.

They didn't even need to make the match. Just have a fight on RAW. Truth & Miz still come out and fight, Nash still geezers around, and Punk doesn't take a loss to Sideburns McGameface.

Well, anything could take place on RAW rather than on PPV. I guess they thought NOC with a HHH vs. Punk match would sell more PPV’s than NOC without a HHH vs. Punk match would.

When you think about it, Punk's sort of as-a-matter-of-fact way of looking at losing his title sort of hurt the storyline. Punk should've been much hotter about losing his title, who he lost it to, and how he lost it than he was. Hell, by not being in the title match, unless he went after Hunter, he wouldn't have been on the card AT ALL*!
*Yeah, I know, Nash, but to be honest, I didn't really buy the match happening. And even if it did, how many people would've liked it?

Because HHH needed his ego massaging, and us internet ners got our fix of CM Punk being champion for a month and now we should cheer for Cena because he laid down for Punk and said nice things about him too. Plus TEH CHAMP IZ HURRRR!!!!111

Ego. I honestly have a feeling that halfway through the feud HHH realized "wait a minute, Punk's gotten in some serious digs on me, we can't have that!" and booked himself to beat him just so viewers remember that he was once a badass wrestler.

To progress the story, and to make it apparent that HHH isn't the heel yet.

Because Nash can't wrestle until his movie shoot is wrapped up, most likely. The first few weeks after Summerslam seemed to be building to Punk/Nash more than Punk/HHH anyway.
That's why Triple H was inserted into the match at all. As for why he won, that's because he's Triple H, and he's an invincible super-god who only loses under extremely rare circumstances. Fortunately, while Punk came out of the feud looking worse than he did going in, he's still been pushed hard enough to feel like a credible main eventer. Cena and Orton have both lost cleanly to Triple H far more times than they've beaten him, and it hasn't kept them from wrestling as headliners.

I know Punk got to kick out of the Pedigree at Night Of Champions but losing to HHH was still a massive step back for him.

I don't know. I honestly have no idea. And I don't really care to find out anymore.
So, whatever WWE thinks they were trying to do didn't work.

Bad storyline is bad.
Gooker 2011
Kevin Nash broke into an arena to send a text message to himself. That says it all right there.

Nah, I never bought that. The WWE would have known that in advance, and would never have started building to it. Every insider claimed that they were heading for HHH v Punk at Survivor Series - now The Rock is going to be wrestling at Survivor Series, why waste the extra kick in the buyrate that HHH wrestling for the first time in six months might bring? They've had to juggle the storyline a little, and yeah, Nash will be back, but f couldn't have wrestled at Night of Champions, he wouldn't have been so heavily involved the first few weeks after Summerslam.

It really is amazing how CM Punk can go over John Cena 2 straight PPVs, yet loses to Triple H, a guy that hasn't wrestled since April.

Trippple H's Ego. He could bear to stand that Punk was getting all the attention so he took his sorry self to his wife and asked to go over Punk. She then screeched okay Hunter just this one time then you are back to being COO.

It was such a bad booking, not furthered by the fact that Triple H is a long way out of physical form. It was ugly.
