It would've made HHH look a complete loser if Punk were to step into the ring after weeks of insulting him, his legacy, his extended family and his wife, cleanly beat him and force him from his job. It wasn't like it was clean, anyways and I imagine it's a win Punk's going to be getting back before Hunter hangs up the hammer for good. I'm not saying it's the way I would've prefered a lot of this storyline to have been worked out, but it makes a shrivel of sense. The ending, I mean, the actual direction of it has me curious yet perplexed.

Aside from that, it allows Punk to keep claiming there's a conspiracy out there that cost him the match, but that it doesn't involve HHH.

The point was that HHH can never lose.

Honestly, the problem is in the fact that they've done nothing with the Triple H / Punk thing since. Triple H needed to win at Night of Champions though, if only because Punk's character was being an unpleasable asshole.

Which he never should have been IMO
Punk's initial promos were based on truth. Then HHH came into the mix and suddenly the fact-based material was replaced by tired references to Stephanie.
WWE should have stuck to the truthful promos.

I like to imagine that HHH logs onto these boards each night, reads through the hate directed at him, lets out a nice Million Dollar Man quality laugh and then relaxes in his giant mansion and nails his hot wife. HHH is the man.

Honestly I think once the stip was added about the COO position HHH basically had to win. HHH as a serious character is just tedious to watch. He is at least fun and silly in DX, regardless of the quality of the antics.
I defy anyone to explain this mystery theater storyline. This stuff makes TNA booking look like the best writings of Agatha Christie or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

The problem wasn't HHH winning the match, it was everything that led up to the match and the way they treated CM Punk's character. The fued made CM Punk go from a hero to the older fans who were tired of the status quo to a whiny bitch. Also Punk pretty much looked like a heel when his conspiracy theory wasn't proven correct. I had no problem with HHH winning the match, but the fact that he didn't turn heel and it just made CM Punk look like a dick all along was the problem. You would think if you had a wrestler who was selling merchandise and getting over you would try to make him as popular as possible, not keep him stuck where he is.
Beyond the CM Punk match is the way they are using HHH as COO. He is treating the heels unfairly and letting the faces get away with murder. You would think the fans might like this, but judging from the reaction after HHH talked about Miz's/Truth's termination he has actually made the fans sympathetic to them. I agree with the posters who said Punk should have had the "Conspiracy Theory" angle for his character, I think a situation like this would have helped him get to the next level while instead it is getting heels cheered.

I have no problem with Punk losing. It's just this idea that Punk went from the rebel trying to shake the WWE's place to a literally punk who needed to be put in his place by Triple H.
That's backwards ass booking if I ever saw it. It'd be like Austin standing down and apologizing to Mr. McMahon during the attitude era.

What would be the point of Punk winning?
Once you get to that point, as a fan, where one guy has to win a match, is supposed to win a match, and if the other guy wins you're going to whine about it, you've crossed over to that place where you'll never be satisfied with what the company does. Because the company just can't possibly exist to satisfy your own personal booking preferences. I mean, maybe they'll make you happy once or twice, but over the long term, no company can make your guy win every match. That's impossible.

Aside from that, it allows Punk to keep claiming there's a conspiracy out there that cost him the match, but that it doesn't involve HHH. This, pretty much. If you thought Punk was being an asshole before, imagine if he'd continued to whine about being held back, after beating Cena twice and then HHH in consecutive PPV's. That, and the whole match was basically an angle, where it was irrelevant who won. Sucks if you paid for it, but that's what it was.

It would of been better if Punk won, then it would grow deeper into the story line and make it more intense. But no, it had to make the little kiddies happy.
