I know this is going to seem like a really stupid question to some people but why didn't Miz pin Orton on Smackdown! this week? Why did Orton need to win that match?
Kane could have interfered and Miz could have beaten Orton by rollup and then Orton and Kane could still have had the show ending brawl. Then Miz could brag on RAW about not being on the Wrestlemania card when he beat Orton.
Is this really hard to do? Or is it just because WWE just doesn't care about Miz no more?

Oh, they still care about the Miz. He's just being taken down a few notches. Don't worry, I have a good feeling that within a month or two, he'll be back to beating most of the roster cleanly.
As far as Miz winning, you could say the same about R Truth on Monday. Orton could've jumped in there...oh well.

Because I think the WWE is attempting to do something with Miz's losing streak. It likely won't work, but I don't think the WWE is just having him lose all the time just to bury him.

Did Miz really need the win? He doesn't havce a Wrestlemania match. Orton does. The bigger issue is that they haven't booked Kane as anything approaching a threat. There was the one attack on Orton to kick things off and since then Orton has gotten over on him every single time. Why does Orton even care about a match at Wrestlemania? He's more than gotten his revenge for that one piddly little chokeslam.

I'm not saying WWE are burying him (his Royal Rumble showing should show that) just they have no clue what to do with him. I just think he could have done with the boost of a win this week.

So he wants to prove that he is a threat by getting the upperhand on Orton. I'm just playing the devl's advocate here.

If I had to guess, I'd say it's because the current Miz thing is him on a slide and freaking out because everyone is (justifiably) pointing out that he's losing and nowhere near where he was last year at this time.
He's getting more and more desperate to make a big move to show he deserves to be on WM and running out of time, which (if announcers actually focused on psychology other than twitter and shucky ducky quack quack) causes him to make 'mistakes' that cost him in matches thus causing him to freak out even more.
In all, it looks like it's leading to Miz 'crashing' WM and shouting how he belongs no matter what and then (most likely) getting squashed by someone, whether it be Brodus Clay, Mason Ryan, or even a hit-and-run Rey Mysterio in an Aquaman mask or some such nonsense.
Then, after that, they'll probably have him start picking up a few wins and be an upper-midcarder type. Maybe even pick up the US title at some point. Just a guess, as said before.

even a hit-and-run Rey Mysterio in an Aquaman mask or some such nonsense. Nonsense? That sounds like the best thing at Mania! "My boy Rey Mysterio just hit that sucka with a trident!!!"

Why on earth would Miz win?
I believe someone like Orton shouldn't be dropping matches unless they plan on it being a big deal.

They're pretty clearly going with a losing streak angle for Miz, though whether or not that's a good idea is a matter of opinion.

Because Miz is Miz and Orton is Orton.

Because the faces needed a win, and there's no way that D-Bry or Cody were going to eat a pinfall or submission this close to Mania.
May as well stick the loss on a guy nobody cares about anyway.
