I was watching 2008 Royal Rumble last night (a thread will be coming soon for that ) and I saw that promo Ashley did with Maria and it got me wondering: What were your thoughts on her? I thought she was alright, if kinda skinny. x.x

I thought it was amusing that, as seen in that promo, she really only showed enthusiasm for getting to act skanky. Her Wrestlemania was definitely the Playboy stuff. And also the awkwardness of her appropriation of punk culture was always really apparent.

Nowhere near as bad looking as people said face wise, but I'm half Italian so that might be my blood speaking. She had an over gimmick too, she couldn't wrestle but eh, frankly at the time she was around most of the female roster couldn't either
I know her attitude and moronic internet wars hardly help with people disliking her though.
I think most of the hate for her is because she's more of a focused vessell for the Diva search (on that note I never liked Christy Hemme who gets a pass from folk), all buzz, no real end result, no one really caring about it.

She had some charisma, but:
-her character was too manufactured -she couldn't wrestle worth a damn -got injured too easily either because of a weaker physique or because they never even taught her how to do basic things properly like take a bump outside of the ring (she actually broke her leg falling out of the ring for goodness sakes)
She was just a flash in the pan type and I never understood why she was popular, except during the diva search when she was one of the few to display any type of personality. However, like Christy Hemme, giving her title shots against far better wrestlers was a joke and they had to do it by giving her one minute matches and hope that she didn't get too exposed in the ring.
And since I don't swing that way--I was more or less distracted by how ugly her outfits were and could not figure out why anyone would want to dress in skirts and fishnets/sidways baseball cap in a wrestling ring.
ETA- And yea as someone who is deeply involved in punk rock culture since I was a teen her appropriation as a gimmick was incredibly obvious, and it was clear that she was putting it on to get over...which is fine if you can get away with it....but she couldn't. I still have to laugh today at people that said "Well, Ashley was real punk but Lita wasn't!"
Really? Last time I checked, Lita's just wasn't a gimmick...she was in a punk band before she became a wrestler, and after she left.

Just my opinion, but I hated those piercings on her lips. Didn't look right to me.

I actually think she would've been easier to take seriously if she had a bit more muscle on her bones, she was far too skinny for me to buy as a wrestler, and I think that's true of most women they have today. Trish, Lita, Victoria, Molly--they all had muscle on their bones.

Didn't hate her, but a bit too skinny and not enough meat on her bones.
Don't know what Playboy saw in her- I could understand why they chose Candice or Christy, who had hot bodies- but Ashley was just not curvy enough for me.

She was not likeable in any way. The best contestant in that year's Diva Search was Elisabeth Rouffaer, imho.

I actually thought she was hot, never understood why people said she looked manly. But I also really disliked her because she seemed super fake. Like, she tried to act all punk rock but I got the feeling that she only did it b/c it was "cute" or something.

Appearance wise, she was good looking. Some of the things written about her looks over the years have been stupid. She was at her best when she first came in and had some more meat on her bones.
I always liked her style. No, it wasn't Punk; so what? It made her stand out and that's always a good thing. 20 beautiful women, 19 all of them dressed the same, one of them dressed in fishnets, pleather, skull and crossbones...she'll be the one to catch your eye.
Wrestling wise, she was thrown in at the deep end and just kept thrashing around. I don't know why WWE thought it was a good idea to put her straight in the ring with practically no training. Not only was it not good to watch, but it was dangerous. They should have kept her as a valet while she went away and got some training.
On the mic, she always seemed to be nervously laughing. She did play her part in the Mickie/Trish storyline really well though, so kudos to her for that. I think she often gets overlooked in that storyline; thankfully she wasn't Kelly or Eve levels of bad.
She was also consistently over.
Her Playboy wasn't that bad, but couldn't compare to girls like Candice, Christy, Torrie & Sable that came in the years before her. It was better than Maria's at least.
Overall, she was a bad wrestler who looked good. Desribes a lot of girls past and present.

As far as her usage went, she would have been servicable as a valet. But becoming a main part of the divas division...........just no.
But I think what killed her were injuries and her issues off the screen. She had an attitude problem, couldn't be counted on to do anything, and that whole "escort service" crap did not help.

her entrance music was annoying. personality/looks were very fake. after a while I couldn't stand her. she seemed unbelievably trashy and skanky. I mean even Matt Hardy got some of that. then came the escort rumors.

I did hear about that. Not only did she make the big mistake of getting herself involved in a backstage love triangle, she also had a bad habit of no-showing, coming late, and apparently showing up intoxicated (!) at one point, and was sent home! If anyone did that today they'd be fired straight away. I'm actually surprised she managed to stay around as long as she did...and they should've kept her strictly as a valet for 2 years, similar to what they did to Candice Michelle while she was training. It would've been easy to put her in a storyline with one of the men and have her stick around in the midcard that way instead of throwing her into the deep end hoping she wouldn't botch. I still cringe thinking about that one armed crucifix she tried to do that could have easily injured her or Torrie.
