I just started watching regularly again in, like, August. I'm almost mad at myself for missing Douchetista. Douchetista was amazing. Up there with insane heel R-Truth as one of the greatest heel turns I've ever seen, at least in terms of me not giving a damn about their face personas.

CM Punk is his best rival, IMO. It's like Superman and Batman. I was already a Punk fan, but that feud made me realize that Cena was a hell of a lot better than I gave him credit for. now im imagining CM Punk with Kryptonite boxing gloves wailing away on Cena I'm imagining CM Punk answering the distress call of the "Punk Signal". (basically, a spotlight with the "Lightning Bolt Flag" symbol on it)

Edge was and I think still is the only person to get the whole arena on Cenas side. there were no mixed reactions during those matches.

Edge was and I think still is the only person to get the whole arena on Cenas side. there were no mixed reactions during those matches. It was like that with Barrett too and if not the whole arena on Cena's side it was at least 90-95 percent pro-Cena. Just watched a clip with the crowd chanting for Cena and Barrett waiting for a moment before saying..."Thank you." then he continues to speak and the crowd is booing him hard and there was nothing but cheers for Cena. youtube at about 1:07: WWE Raw: The Nexus makes John Cena and Otunga to loose the Tag Team Championship 10.25.10

I must side with the majority here and agree that Edge was the best. That said, Douchetista was excellent.
I love the aforementioned "Cena = Superman, CM Punk = Batman" analogy.

Edge was Lex Luthor to Cena's Superman. Edge was one of the few superstar's that can beat Cena without outside interference. Hell he was one of the few that did the same thing to Batista or Orton. He was practically Lex Luthor against everyone.

The problem with Cena has never been that he himself has been bad, just that the alternatives are all so much more appealing, yet WWE sticks by him no matter what. It gets maddening, which is what leads to all the irrational hate.
Case in point; Cena's gallery of rouges (Edge, Punk, Batista) are all MUCH more compelling than he is.

Could've been and should've been Wade. YES.That was a huge opportunity missed. But anyways,I agree with Edge being Cena's best rival.Remembering his promo saying that he hates Cena's shirt, hat etc...it was like they legit hated each other all the time and every time they came face to face,in the ring or on the mic, they were both great.

He was practically Lex Luthor against everyone. Not to mention, Lex Luthor has a way of always making people believe he is right or "reformed"... which is something I think is very present in Edge. Just when you "think you know him", he reveals how much of a maniac he can be. Wade Barrett was Luthor-esque for a while... but then his "BIGGUH PITCHER" fizzled out... so I guess he's more like... Vandal Savage, I guess.

Could've been and should've been Wade. Definitely. Punk wins as far as rival on the same side (i.e. Batman/Superman, etc.), but Edge easily takes it as Cena's best nemesis. Whenever the two were pit against each other, they never disappointed. Barrett could have easily been the same, if they hadn't royally dropped the ball the way they did. Nice job, Creative.

Batista is #3 in my list. The douchiness of his heel character was one of the greatest ever, but we all knew that Cena was going to win every last one of those matches in 2010.
Edge & Kurt Angle are higher in my list, because they feuded with him for more than 3 years. Angle was the first guy Cena fought in the WWE, plus Edge obtained his first world title against Cena.

Dave might have been Cena's most _natural_ (in an organic sense) rival, but Edge was his best.

I think it's similar to The Rock and his rivalries with Triple H and Austin. Batista was like Cena's Triple H in that they both rose to prominence together and were great foils and Edge was like Cena's Austin in that they were ultimately dynamite together and always blew the roof off the place when they faced each other. I have no particular preference to either guy personally; I thought they were both some of the very few credible and worthy heel challengers for Cena.

Edge was the best, but Punk is the perfect complement to Cena.
Like others have said, though, Wade was way up there.

I like to think of Punk as Hulk Cena's Macho Man.
