Stuff like this makes me question whether or not we should start having a legal duty to rescue. Legally, unless you put someone in a dangerous position you have no obligation to help them (outside of parent/child relationship or other relationships that make you responsible)

Apparently the breaking news is that she's brain dead, disgusting.

If the first truck caused it then her being helped wouldn't have prevented this (not saying that I don't think that it was DISGUSTING that so many people ignored that poor girl), but if it was the second truck that caused it, then my god...the lack of a small slice of common decency has cost this poor girl her life.

For those who are like me that refuses to give Youtube more info than you think that they need, here is an alternate link. According to this source, the second driver was found already. The first driver, who is a truly disgusting excuse for a human being, is apparently at large and the police are asking eyewitnesses for step forward (best of luck with that).

For those wondering why people act like this, one of the comments might explain it.

"It isn’t ignoring, it’s not daring. If one were to encounter a Nanjing judge, one would be screwed." This is referring to this case.

To be specific,

Nanjing Peng Yu refers to a 2006 case in Nanjing. On the morning of November 20th, 65-year-old woman Xu Shoulan had fallen and injured herself at a bus stop. A man, Peng Yu, helped her up and then, after her requests, took her to the hospital. The old woman then blamed him and claimed that he had run into her. Peng Yu resolutely denied this. The old woman sued him. After four trials, a Nanjing judge ruled that since he admitted to being the first person to get off the bus, and in accordance with common sense, there was a greater probability that he had run into the old woman, and so he was ordered to compensate her over 45,000 RMB. This was a very famous case, often to explain why many people are reluctant to help others.

I'm not excusing this in any way.. it's reprehensible that anyone could see that and simply pass by, but the Chinese people place a different value on a female child's life than other societies. I don't know that it's changed, but that used to be the way things were over there due to the massive population. Many horror stories about the terrible things done to female newborns. Wrong as it may be, they simply don't value the life of a female child.
