I'm not excusing this in any way.. it's reprehensible that anyone could see that and simply pass by, but the Chinese people place a different value on a female child's life than other societies. I don't know that it's changed, but that used to be the way things were over there due to the massive population. Many horror stories about the terrible things done to female newborns. Wrong as it may be, they simply don't value the life of a female child. I'm pretty sure the gender of the child is irrelevant in this case.

That was one of the most disturbing things I've ever seen. When he runs her over with the back wheels and she kind of skips out. That is a level of horror and just unnatural wrongness I can't explain. Do not watch this video if you can't handle this stuff. That shit is going to stick with you for a while.
I can't even being to comprehend the people in this video. I'm not even judging them, I just flat out don't understand why...
I'd offer my condolences to the mother but she's largely to blame. Condolences to the father though, from what I understand he wasn't there and just looked destroyed, judging from the picture it seems like the mother could hardly give a crap. So much of this is disgusting, man.

I just read that 2 year old Wang Yue died from the injuries sustained in the hit and run.
RIP little girl. You were taken callously and too soon.

Finally watched it just now.
It's the Kitty Genovese of the 21st century. Really not the kind of thing that reinforces your faith in humanity. Just depressing, infuriating, and horrible from top to bottom.

I will not watch that video. I almost watched it the other day, but I refuse. I'll get angry.

There's a pretty distinct line between wanting to help but being hesitant and just walking by without giving the slightest f***. Which is what most of the people in this video seemed to have done.

I didn't watch the video, it just sounds too screwed up. I prefer to think that nobody helped because like others said, the system in China is broken as hell and they are afraid of being blamed. Still, I would like to think that in the same situation, I would face that fear and try to save the girl's life.
This reminds me of a story a friend of mine told me. He's a black guy that lived in a predominantly white neighborhood when he was a kid. One day when he was around 10 or 11 years old, his parents were at work and he was riding his bike through the neighborhood when he had a bad wreck on it. He crashed and landed in a barbed wire fence, and was knocked unconscious. When he woke up, it was dark so he had been there for several hours. He says he was easily visible from the street, and he was certain that a lot of people had to have drove by him because it was a moderately busy road. He ended up having to untangle himself from the barbed wire fence that he had destroyed and walk back to his house.
Stuff like that just makes me sick.

I recently spent a month in China and not one word of this story surprises me. Are things really that bad there? I live in Japan, so I hear a lot of people bad-mouthing China and its society, but I don't know how much of it is true.

That was probably the worst thing I have ever seen, just on so many levels that absolutely disgusts me...
