The Artist, The Descendants, Hugo, The Help, and Midnight in Paris are locks imo.
War Horse and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo are my picks to sneak in. I think only 7 get nominated.
Loved Moneyball, but Id be surprised if it got a Best Pic nod. Pitt will be nominated, and Jonah Hill has a shot, but I dont think they'll get in Best Picture.

One film I have not seen mentioned is: Melancholia
Not seen it myself, but it has won a bunch of critic awards so I would not be surprised to see it nominated.

Your best picture nominations: Warhorse The Artist Moneyball The Descendents The Tree of Life Midnight in Paris The Help Hugo Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close
Looks like I was 4 for 5 (Harry Potter being the miss)
Was watching on my CBS affiliate and they were shocked that Bridesmaids wasn't nominated for Best Picture. I didn't even know that was even floated as a possible nomination

Dreamworks gets two nominations, Pixar gets none. Strange year.
Still glad Cars 2 was not nominated.
Oh and the movie that won best animated movie at the Golden Globes, not even nominated for an Oscar (The Adventures of TinTin)...

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy deserves a lot of nominations but it's been pretty much snubbed at the Golden Globes. If Gary Oldman doesn't finally get an Oscar nomination for his performance, it will be one of the biggest snubs ever IMO. Oldman did get a nomination, and the film also got nominated for best screenplay (forgot which one exactly). I was just surprised Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close got nominated because of the mixed reviews. But then again, I haven't seen any of these movies, aside from Moneyball, which I thought was great.

I was just surprised Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close got nominated because of the mixed reviews. It's got a 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, by contrast Rise of the Planet of the Apes has an 83%. I'm disappointed Rise didn't get a Best Picture nomination, and that Andy Serkis and Michael Fassbender were shut out.

I was just surprised Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close got nominated because of the mixed reviews. You're not the only one surprised. Director Stephen Daldry put the bait in the water, and the Oscar voters were all too ready to gobble it up. ""Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" is the kind of movie you want to punch in the nose." - Tom Long, Detroit News "Stephen Daldry's extremely labored and incredibly crass adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer's novel." - Ann Hornaday, Washington Post "Seems artificial and contrived to me." - Leonard Maltin "Somewhere in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close there probably is a great movie. It just didn't get made." - Gary Wolcott, Tri City Herald "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close has a story worth telling, but it deserves better than the treacly and pretentious treatment director Stephen Daldry gives it." - Rotten Tomatoes (currently at 48%)

My predictions: The Artist The Descendants The Help Hugo Midnight in Paris Moneyball War Horse ...so 7 noms, I suppose. My 7 all got noms but technically I'm 7 for 9. Did not see Tree of Life or EL&IC coming.

Extremely Loud getting nominated is pretty funny.
Anyways, GARY OLDMAN FINALLY GOT A NOMINATION! f*** YES. One of the greatest actors of the last 25 years, and had until this morning gone unnoticed by the Academy. So unbelievably happy for him.

The only movie I've seen that was nominated was Moneyball which was alright. I was right that Jonah Hill was going to be nominated since I saw the first trailer I'm not really interested or have a mild interest in seeing any of the best picture nominees. The only film I actually kind of want to see is Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
