I just wonder just how such a comic that makes zero sense even exists.

I haven't watched the video yet, but I have to say, this is the comic I've been waiting for him to review ever since I started following AT4W, back when Linkara was still doing text reviews. If it didn't actually came out at almost the exact same time as The Dark Knight Strike Again I would actually consider Marville #1 the worst comic of all time.

Bill Jemas did a lot of shrewd things to boost Marvel's brand.
That comic was not one of those things.

I followed that link at the end of the video,,how the hell is he going to do Issue #3 (the no word balloon issue)? Maybe he should pay homage to NC's Good Son review and just use cue cards.

I just wonder just how such a comic that makes zero sense even exists. There was no money to be made from this book and even at the time everybody at Marvel knew that. No, this book was published for one single, solitary reason - because Joe Quesada and Bill Jemas wanted to tell Peter David "f*** you" in the most pointless, tasteless, stupidest, overly elaborate and time wasting way possible. And it didn't even succeed at that. I was really hoping Linkara would get more into the background and aftermath (or lack of aftermath) of the U-Decide bet itself. It's just as stupid as this book, but a lot more interesting.

Is the rule still in place that Madison will ban anyone who says that comic's name?

notice how DC never put out a rambling non-sequitur about how Marvel sucks? what the hell is with Marvel's inferiority complex about DC? doesn't Marvel sell more books? it's like Eric Bischoff constantly making whiny shoot comments about WWE.

notice how DC never put out a rambling non-sequitur about how Marvel sucks? what the hell is with Marvel's inferiority complex about DC? doesn't Marvel sell more books? it's like Eric Bischoff constantly making whiny shoot comments about WWE. You have to remember that this was published at a time when Joe Quesada and Bill Jemas were at their peak of power. The Ultimate Universe was the hottest thing in comics, being touted by both Marvel and critics alike as the concept that would carry the industry for decades (man, did that peter out quick). The previous years X-Men movie defied all expectations at the box office, and that years Spider-Man movie was the biggest movie of the year, even outperforming Star Wars Episode One. Marvel regularly occupied most, if not all, of the top 10 spots (through a rather shady practice actually, but the claim looked good on paper nonetheless) on Diamond Comics ordering lists. Plus Marvel had just recently signed exclusive deals with two of DC's most high profile writers, Marc Waid and Kevin Smith, and had gotten a ton of critical praise for Grant Morrison's X-Men signing him away from DC in an exclusive deal also. DC on the other hand didn't have much to crow about. Their legacy heroes, which while I loved and would much prefer to read about than anything in DC's currect Silver Age nostalgia kick, had been floundering in sales for years. As previously mentioned they had just lost their three most high profile writers of the last five years. Their most recent high profile endeavor, Frank Miller's return to Batman in "The Dark Knight Strikes Again" was an unmitigated disaster. They also hadn't had a successful movie since the Tim Burton Batman movies, most of their movie plans being stuck in developmental hell for years. The only thing DC really had going for them was the critical darling JSA, written by, at the time, the hottest up and coming writer in the industry Geoff Johns. And Quesada and Jemas didn't waste a moment reminding people of this. You'd regularly read interviews online or transcripts from web chats from them bragging about these successes and making fun of DC and the people who ran it as being unable or unwilling to compete. It was mostly Jemas, but it didn't take much egging to get Quesada to join in. They very quickly came off as arrogant and self-righteous a**holes. Actually the Eric Bischoff comparison is very apt. Especially when you consider Jemas' fall from grace when things started turning around. The U-Decide bet actually went a long way to setting that fall in motion.

See, this is the kinda crap that pisses me off to no end. I'm a Marvel guy, always have been, always will be. I hate everything Batman right now, I roll my eyes at Superman most of the time, and Flash (speed force) almost throws me into a murderous rage. That said, I hate it when Marvel does stupid crap like that (and Marville isn't the first time they've ever poked fun at DC). Ignore them and concentrate on putting out good comics and products. I love saying "Make mine Marvel!" but I don't like bullies.

Probably because no matter what Marvel does, DC's trinity will always be the most recognizable superheroes. So even though Marvel sells more and has more success, they still won't have a character in the public's eyes as much as Superman.

Eh, Spider-Man is probably close, along with MAYBE Captain America, but yeah, for the most part, they just don't have the same kind of icons.

Spider-Man is the closest they have, most definitely (I don't think Captain America is on their same tier, except for when the movie came out). But I think if you played word association with the general public and said "Superhero," the majority of the responses would be Batman or Superman.

Actually, DC has poked fun at Marvel as well (remember funky flashman? Or the Extremists?) but whats sad is that both companies used to have respect for each other (i remember marvel giving props to superman's 50th anniversary in 1987). They really should have gone in the format of Not Brand Ecch or What The?!, humor comics that were actually funny (if a bit in-jokey at times). Heck, this story would have been the perfect way to bring back irving forbush.
