I used to love Smoky Cheddar BBQ flavored Dorito's, but it's been years since I've seen them anywhere. Nowadays, it's Sweet & Spicy Chili for me.

I miss the Xtreme BBQ flavor and the Ranchero ones they had to promote the 2006 World Cup. Nowadays I'm partial to either Sweet & Spicy Chili or Blazin' Buffalo Ranch.

I've ordered several flavors from Japan including -
Peppered Bacon
Steak and Sea Salt
Shrimp and Mayonnaise Flavored Pizza
New England Clam Chowder
Squid and Soy Sauce
Nagoya Yakitori Chicken
The Steak and Sea Salt was really good. The Squid and Soy Sauce was pretty gross (and I like squid). I was really excited about the Shrimp and Mayonnaise Pizza but they weren't that great. The rest were ok but nothing special.

I'm still pissed off that they no longer have Salsa doritos, man. And I also see that Blazin' Buffalo Ranch is starting to get few and far between.

This is why I find it odd that they released a super special mystery flavour over here a couple of years back and it turned out to be...BBQ.
They have every flavour under the sun and THAT was their big suprise?

There seems to be a belief among the snack food industry in general that Americans don't like exotic flavors so they keep there flavors here as basic as possible while being more experimental internationally. As someone who does like to try weird, exotic foods (hell I made tacos out of Kangaroo meat on New Years) I find that policy very frustrating. |
