Does it drive anyone else crazy that blogger takes out the second space after a period? I'm totally OCD about it.

That's a rule that's pretty much archaic. The reason that this was done was due to typewriters - the period didn't take up as much space as most letters, so an extra space was needed. On computers, fonts are laid out in a way that this isn't needed. Some people hold onto it, but professionally it should not be done.
You are not OCD about it. Not only is that grammatically incorrect, but it's trivializing to those of us who have the mental illness. OCD, as a mental illness, is one that can completely destroy your life. Please, please don't use it to refer to trivial things that annoy you.

I remember specifically I was taught to type with two spaces behind the period and I'm not that old.(only 23)

Yeah, I had to unlearn the double spacing thing and still do it without realizing it every so often. Though going to school for journalism and learning AP style, which specifically says "USE SINGLE SPACES AFTER ENDING A PERIOD ASSHOLE!", helped a lot with that.

I've always been taught single spacing, since:
This is kind of grating to read, after a while.See what I mean?Maybe it's just what I am used to.

I had never heard of that rule until my last year of college. I was kind of surprised no teacher had ever mentioned it sooner.
On a somewhat related note, I also didn't learn until around that time that underlining titles is also an archaic, outdated rule. One English professor taught us that the underlining was originally used to indicate that those words were to be italicized, and with computers, you can easily just italicize the words.

I remember specifically I was taught to type with two spaces behind the period and I'm not that old.(only 23) It probably depends on the area you were taught. I'm 21 and wasn't ever taught that. My mom also had a career in professional typing since the 80's, so I learned a lot of typing rules from her, and she has said that unless you're using a typewriter, you should not use the double space. Also true! In typewriters, using italics was a huge pain in the ass. So up until the very final draft of something, underlines would be used instead to indicate that italics should be used. This is also used for writing things down, since italics can't be used in handwriting (unless you've got mad skill, lol).

Even though I learned it, I drove my editors crazy for about 6 months before I finally got it. But yeah, it's something that's carried on even though it doesn't have a lot of practical use now.
