Just watched and was suprised how much I liked it. While the plot is somewhat predictable, the actresses carry this movie by their performances. The big standouts were Octavia Spencer and Viola Davis as the main two maids. Viola Davis especially, as she should and probably will win Best Actress Oscar this year. Also, it was nice to see Emma Stone act in a different role from her usual teen comedy roles. She gives a solid performance as well.

I liked it for the acting and direction, but, and I know this is not a popular opinion, but I just don't get why this story needed to be told.
Nothing really happens (though they added a scene at the end making it much better than the book) and it doesn't tell us anything new.
Yeah, I'm nuts, but after reading the book and watching it, I don't see it as anything more than a poor story about "noble" white person befriends helpless African Americans to her own ends.
That being said, the acting is top notch.
