Let's hope this one at least doesn't have the huge aftermath of problems the last one did.

CNN reported that there's no tsunami warning, so that's a plus.
Also if you see a CNN report on twitter that a second one hit with a 7.9, ignore it. It's from a parody account.

Funny but there was a 4.0 earthquake in Ohio saturday night, I wonder if they are related.

Good God, seriously!? I live and work in Japan, but I've been back in the U.S. to see my family for Christmas and New Years. How many big earthquakes does one country need?
When/if I get back, I only hope that things are okay and all my co-workers are safe.

This is a 7.0 compared to the 9.0 from last year. Also this seemed to be father away, so it looks like there's little chance of fatalities.
Hopefully it doesn't cause a chain reaction.

Look guys, I'm not trying to be a bad person in saying this, but is anyone surprised? Japan sits on the most active plate boundary in the world and have had at least one Earthquake measuring 7.0every year since 2003 this millennium.
I know it's an earthquake and most of us have never felt one that strong, unless you're on the West Coast, but it's hardly a shock for the Japanese anymore. I'm not accusing you guys of overreacting, just trying to bring some perspective here. Be happy it isn't as large as the one last year, but don't be surprised.

Well that explains the earthquake I felt a couple of hours ago. www.jma.go.jp/en/quake/20120101143715391-011428.htmlI'm not too worried about this quake. If you look at the map, the most Japan felt was around a 4. Plus it was a bit far away and it hasn't caused any Tsunami warnings. So everything is all fine on the Japan front... except I know my mom is going to be all worried when I call here later today.

Honestly it isn't earthquakes Japan is worried about(their buildings are designed to withstand quakes for the most part), it is tsunamis caused by quakes underneath the seabed that is their real problem.
So, unless there is a tsunami warning/watch, there is nothing to worry about, guys.

How much damage or how much the quake is felt usually has to do with depth and/or location. What made last year`s Japan and Indonesia`s 2004 quake so damaging was that it was deep in the ocean, and it was equivalent to a mountain falling in the water.

If they keep having earthquakes, eventually Godzilla is going to make his debut!

A 7.0 earthquake hardly even registers there. I am sure a lot of people got a bit of a scare, but Japanese buildings can withstand that stuff.
